@@tanvirali7817 I don’t remember it that detailed. *spoiler alert* it was when he was in prison, and while the camera was off him, he ran his cell mate to China and returned before the camera rotated around again. Then one or two episodes later, someone distracts him by dropping civilians from the upper floor, and he doesn’t have time to run across the lobby and save them before the villain escapes. I think he actually runs slower than a regular human sprinter in that scene, just with the lightning effects added.

Flash really had the weirdest inconsistencies like The final battle with Savitar who's like The fastest Guy ever but Jay , Barry And Wally caught up to him like he was a regular speedster. Also the plot of Wally being faster than Barry never went anywhere. It's so damn frustrating and that's why I dropped it after S4.

Apparently Barry goes "evil" finds out it was reverse Flash manipulating the timeline to make him the flash and Barry the reverse flash (without explaining how) but to undo that Barry needs to time travels which suddenly causes the earth to break into pieces. (Why now? Who knows.)

After watching a few CW shows, usually stopping when I realize I haven't watched it in a while and don't really care, I've learned my lesson to just bail on purpose at the third "oh come on now this is dumb". They always fuck it up with hokey drama, completely changing everything that made it fun in the beginning, and rapid repetitive power creep. Arrow started out with a guy who went pretty nuts after spending ages alone on an island, becoming a violent and murderous vigilante. Step by step they introduced new shit he did on the island until he actually spent a couple of days alone on the island, completely rewriting the whole premise, and defeating his foes with the power of friendship. Of course he, the brooding loner, gets a huge team of buddy buddy also superpowered vigilantes going on wacky adventures together. Of course there's also endless poorly written drama between them. AND THEY STOPPED DOING THE SALMON LADDER WORKOUT SCENES! Those were so fucking tasty

If only the CW took a page from the Justice League cartoons. In that show, Flash is every bit as powerful as you would expect, but in that Flash is shown as being a guy who cares for the villians and the people of the city. The villans get a leg up on him by putting him in situations where he has to choose between stopping them, or saving innocent lives. Just adding this one character trait/flaw would make the CW Flash so much more interesting.

The "bargain visual effects aren't the problem, poor writing is" argument is so spot-on, it sums up every bad season perfectly. It costs nothing to write proper build-ups, tension, stakes, character motivation, and every established storycrafting technique that grabs and keeps an audience engaged episode to episode. Consistency also costs nothing but costs everything if one screws it up. This show needed a visionary showrunner with the mettle of, say, Vince Gilligan or Eric Kripke, paired with a network that believes in them. Never liked Berlanti, but that's just me.

I would point out that Team Flash in season one is even smaller than it appears, since Wells isn't actually a true member in that season - being the villain and all. Yes he fills the role, but halfway through the season we learn the truth and that flips his entire dynamic on its head. Plus, that actually makes Team Flash a useful plot element, with the betrayal, rather than the drag it became later.

One little thing that could’ve made the show so much more visually appealing they just ignored. In the first episode, it starts with Barry examining the crime scene and the diameter of tire tracks. It showed like measurements in white as in the perspective of Barry, and it was really cool. In every CSI investigation they could’ve put examinations in white and let us see through the perspective of Barry, but nah, every CSI investigation had to turn into Barry pointing something out, having a pep talk about something in his relationships, then him darting off towards STAR labs to examine the evidence and some funny but bullshit computer hacking sequence 😂

I love season 1, it's actually interesting compared to the rest, but i think the issue also came from there as the formula they use in every single episode coming after that is just the same but getting worse each time, the fights in season 1 actually carried weight as they tested barry's and his team's strenght (as well as speed) and sometimes, they would force the main villain to do smth (like how Eobart was almost forced to use his speed to run away from the electric lad). I actually think it works well with Barry's dad too and arguably Joe. Barry's dad telling him to run works well cause he was just a kid, and Eobard coming back and saying it to him as his mentor adds a connection to the 2 for Barry. Eobard is his mentor and idol and is repeating the same line thst Barry's father said to him when he was just a kid. As you said, its like reverse flash is mocking Barry. I wouldn't be surprised if he heard Barry's dad say that the night Nora died and holds that over Barry as encouragement and a reason to stay angry at him and get faster. And I think Joe saying it works because Joe is that new father figure in his life. It only works like twice though. I think it's fitting for him to say it after zoom kills Henry to give us that sense of a passing of the torch moment almost.

25:49 Whilst you are right in saying he is a badass, I think that what makes Barry such a good character in general is the fact that he cares In the animated series, he knew every person he saved by name, lived in an apartment with barely any furniture, he prioritised saving and helping people - even villains - over his own interests and any semblance of glory (Such as the Flash museum) And personally I don't think they did that iteration justice in the Arrowverse But I feel like they tried And ended up making him reliant on a lot of other characters which defeats the point of this dude with superspeed who turns out to be *just a random millennial with superspeed and a good heart saving a whole city all by himself*

They really did try to show his compassion towards the people he saves (the episode with Frankie, where he reassures and hugs her will always make me emotional), but the problem is we don't see enough of it. The show is so eager to get on with its plotlines, and even when we get filler, it's not stuff that we SHOULD be getting in a superhero show: Barry being a hero, interacting with the city, with the civilians (we did get some of that in s1 with the villains of the week and Barry showing them compassion here and there, but never with non-meta civilians or at least non-villains). Maybe a few sidequests here and there, where he does something that isn't plot-related but furthers his own arc as a hero, because he learns about how every little thing matters - not just stopping the bad guys, but helping out the little guy too (also if it's put in the right season, it COULD be plot-related: there's an episode in s4 where the city rallies together to help find DeVoe, but wouldn't that hit a lot stronger if we've seen the goodwill Barry built up with the civilians, rather than being TOLD about it?)

honestly for iris, she could have worked as a main character if they leaned more into her journalist/investigator job, imagine if she was the one that found cicada, she was the one who figured out who savitar was, who reverse flash was? but in a way that made her seem like a skilled investigator, which considering she was raised by a cop, her being good at that isnt hard to believe, and in turn, we wouldnt have needed that ridiculous french sherloque. Iris could be the person to show that you dont need superpowers to be a hero, which is what the earlier seasons of the cw arrowverse were a bit better in portraying.

It's crazy that Arrow and The Flash were both better shows when the titular characters were basically working alone. The best parts of Arrow were usually the flashbacks, Oliver working on his own, or him talking about the island. The polygraph episode is still my favorite. The reveal of him lying about the island because the people there tortured him was such a good reveal. Barry working with a small team that is teaching him how to be a hero is good. And despite it being literally shown to us early on the reveal of Harrison Wells being Reverse Flash had some genuinely good writing. The team never questioned how Wells somehow knew so much about the speed force or how he knew how it felt to phase through a wall. Him talking about it was such a good nugget pointing to the reveal I wish that they kept us in the dark as much as the other characters were. So we could piece it together along with Barry.

I agree with everything you said about arrow that polygraph scene was so good. I’m pretty sure the detective seemed a little bit sad even though he hated Oliver. What it could have been.

My take on Iris is that they really shouldn't have had her be both Barry's adopted sister and love interest. Ignoring the Alabama vibes, if you can call them that, she doesn't have a clear relationship to Barry, and him basically falling in love with the person that he's been raised with is it really good indicator of how much they didn't know what to do with her. Have Iris be a person who Barry is introduced to through some other way, such as being a reporter chasing down the same case that he's working, and have him build up relationship with her that is predicated first on their mutual respect for each other's capabilities, and then you'll have an interesting arc and love interest. However, when you have him just be in love with her because pseudosibling weird reasons, you have a character where you don't have a lot of room for them to grow

S9 Arrow: Oliver can't fight alone even after being trained and bested Ra's Al Ghul, also he was smacked around by a couple of cops a few times. (PS he also forgot any knowledge he had about weapon designing, science, chemistry or general street smarts) Flash S1: Barry realizes that speed doesnt only mean running velocity, he can also think at insane speeds and effect his clothes as well as enviroment. Flash S7: Other people point out that Barry can think at Super speeds, Barry is shocked by this revelation. Do they even bother with writing?

That is the problem with the CW. All they make is soap operas. At it's heart ALL of their shows are trashy soap operas for a niche audience. Like trashy soap operas for teens or trashy soap operas for nerds or trashy soap operas for other nerds or a remake / spinoff of an existing trashy soap opera. I should know I love trashy middle eastern soap operas. But I go in knowing after season 1 things are going to get convoluted and unbelievably crazy. Everyone's going to have an evil twin, people will start faking their deaths and by the time the show wraps up everyone will have f***** everyone at least once in the most dramatic way possible. But by it's very nature trashy soap operas are not well written they have a very specific formula they use as a blueprint for every single episode and every single season. They use up all their good ideas in season 1 and they're hoping you care enough about the characters by the end of season 1 you'll sit through the next 15 seasons. But most people don't enjoy trashy soap operas and I don't blame them, I have never finished a full soap opera because it gets too wild and also somehow boring by season 4 and I actually enjoy them. But people who go into these shows thinking that it's going to be an actual good show or who don't know that CW exclusively makes soap operas are going to be really disappointed and really let down and I feel bad for them!

I actually think that Iris could have worked really well if they leaned into the reporter thing more from the beginning. I only saw seasons 1 and 2 of Daredevil, but Karen Page always felt like what Iris should have been. A regular person who didn’t need powers or incredible combat training or genius intellect to go up against bad guys. Someone with street smarts, empathy and determination to uncover the truth and expose corruption. That would have given her a unique niche on Team Flash instead of forcing her into becoming the team leader (for some reason) or a speedster.

I 100% agree, Karen was Matt's love interest, but she was still her own person outside of this relationship. Season 4 was my favorite because of the Thinker, his ability to think 40 years ahead makes him on of the best foils to the overpowered Flash you never know if anything that goes wrong for him is just part of an insanely long term plan. I loved the relationship he had with his wife in the show, especially the part where she discovered she had been mind wiped over and over stuck with me. Of course, the way they took him down was an asspull, there's no way this writing team could have managed otherwise.

It doesn't have to be a mini-series, but it definitely would have been better with shorter seasons. Season 6 shows this. The episodes running up to Crisis were the highlight of The Flash since season 1/2. It had an entire arc, and a focused storyline that was about Barry trying to solve a singular issue for the first 8 episodes. CW is still using the formula that they used with Smallville, only Smallville wouldn't work with the way we consume modern television.

I guess they weren't confident in their ability to finish the arc before the season ends, so it continued into season 7, but season 7 also needed to set up its own stuff. @@jordanjohnson8150 well to be fair it doesn't make ZERO sense, sure it doent make much sense, but its not zero. they tried to explain it as cisco just didnt want to be in charge, and the rest by more of a confidence thing. like iris was the only one who didnt freeze up with barry gone so the others just kinda fell in line. not the best explanation but its what the show gave, and it does at least make a LITTLE sense. anyway about your idea though. your idea can also help solve another issue the barry failing to stop criminals his powers easily could. the initiating event for each small episode villain can be played more like a mystery, rather than it being a more active catch them in the act kinda thing. iris investigating something comes across a crime while investigating something unrelated. so iris is largely off screen doing whatever that is, but each episode can start with her throwing them some case they need to solve on thier own because shes busy with her thing, but still gotta stop crimes. so she is still involved each episode with an important role, but minimally on screen, and bary couldn't have solved it in the first three seconds. two birds, one stone, and everyone including the CW execs and writters that want iris to be super important can all still be happy.

The show would air like 2 episodes then be "on break" for 2 weeks. Get another episode or two, then 2 more weeks without one. I really loved season 2, possibly more than season 1, i really enjoyed zoom and his character arc in the show because he was basically the dark version of barry, his mom died but unlike barry he had no one to go to which is why he's evil, he sort of lashed out against the world and lost the feeling to care about people until he meets Caitlin which makes him think that maybe he doesn't have to be alone but after she rejects becoming evil with him, all he cares about is being as powerful as he can be so he can destroy the world that took everything from him

Its really hard to write the Flash, because his speed should solve pretty much everything within a few minutes of the intro. So his speed varies tremendously not just from episode to episode but from scene to scene. He can either dodge bullets, or cannot dodge a punch, depending on what the writer wants to do.

I disagree with you re: a small budget shouldn't mean bad writing. It's very lucky that other shows with low budgets have good writing. But in this case (and sooo many others), a low budget means the writing is also given an absurdly low budget, and the writers are overworked and underpaid. To a lot of them, this is probably just another job - and a sh*tty one with bad pay, bad hours, studio interference, impossible deadlines. I was enormously frustrated with the mistreatment of Cisco! From de-powering him to never giving him any storyline to having him constantly be shit on by other characters! He was the heart of the show and was always willing to do what was best for his friends and the writers didn't seem to realize how great he or Carlos was. I'm glad Carlos Valdes left because he deserves so much better than to be given nothing to do week after week! It's sad all the potential they wasted though with his character. Reverse Flash was such a great villain. Zoom was a decent follow up, at least at first. While, yeah, he was basically a re-hash of Thawne being another evil speedster that's trying to essentially con Barry and his team into giving him his speed back, he worked for a while because he was A) terrifying (while Thawne killed people to either protect his secret or further his plan, Zoom pretty much would kill ANYONE for the fun of it and it made him the king villain since everyone knew they couldn't stop him) and B) had a better explained reason why he was de-powered (super steroids boosting his speed even further for a while, but eventually messed with his powers). I personally think he could have stuck the landing if, instead of causing trouble on Earth-1 for fun, generically trying to take over 2 dimensions, and challenging Barry to a really convoluted death race, he just tried to kill Team Flash since he figured they would eventually be able to stop him if he left them alone. There's probably other parts that brought the character down, but I can't recall much else and I'm not looking that crap up just for a comment.

Here's where they lost me with Thawne: In Crisis on Earth X they gave the vaguest of explanations for his return as time travel , and just left it at that, which was an insult to our intelligence, so is the fact that he put Harrison Wells' face back on "for old time's sake". I love Tom Cavanagh, but him continuing to play Thawne after his charade as Wells has been exposed makes no sense. When questioned why it was him still playing the character in season 5, the show runner just said he would still be using Wells' face in the timeline he and the writers have in their heads for the character, for which they gave no further elaboration of, continuing to insult our intelligence. Matt Letscher should have been brought in more to play him. If they insist on keeping the Reverse-Flash as a constant presence in the show then they should be focusing more on his early days. The Thawne who has yet to learn the Flash's true name, and has yet to go back in time and kill Barry's mother. There's history between these two that has yet to be explored, but the show is making no effort to touch on.

At least Zoom isn't extremely overused like Thawne/Wells. Anyway Zoom was the best villain in my opinion because he made the most sense out of any other villain on this show. Thawne, I felt like, needed a better explanation to all his plans and backstory and whatnot, because he suddenly is unkillable and never finishes the job in killing Barry. Zoom overall just was more simple to understand, since he was a serial killer and basically wanted to make Barry like himself instead of killing him, and for this reason he didn't want to kill all of Team Flash in an instant when he easily could've many times. Zoom wanted to spread fear and rule an earth which makes more sense than Thawne's whole story imo Also, Zoom was literally unstoppable and the biggest threat Team Flash had ever seen, an even bigger threat than Thawne. He also terrified the heck out of many people including : Barry, Wells, Linda, Caitlin, Cisco, and the whole police department on both worlds lol. Basically everyone was terrified of this speed demon. Thawne didn't have as much an impact on Barry, besides the time when he killed his mom.

Thawne's motives were a little half-baked for sure. Season 1 was all about him trying to get back to his time. But why? There was a deleted scene where Joe questioned him about this, and he deduced that Eobard actually had loved ones whom he was trying to get back to. That should've been explained further. Also there was that flashback scene where Eobard is talking to a comatose Barry, saying there's been no trace of the man he hates, and how nothing is forgiven. This implied that Barry does something to him, at some point. That he wronged him in some way, causing Eobard to hate him so much - but once more, it's never explored.

I know there would have been a lot of squiteny about a D.I.D case. But it would make more sense to explain why there are two different personalities. A protective side of her that only comes out when she's in danger or comes out in high stress.

"that only comes out when she's in danger or comes out in high stress" that limitation isn't super realistic. alters can come out for many reasons (& two alters can kind of be "out" at the same time), it can be as small as seeing a food they like or something that catches their interest, or it can happen for no clear reason. sometimes they themself don't even know why they're out lol. thats part of what makes it so chaotic to live with, things aren't usually straightforward & simple and it typically takes a long time to figure out even basic patterns like this.

For real! I was nearly only watching most of this cringefest of an kidsshow because of him. Season one, two and parts of season 3 where sooo good and most of it i would have just completly skipped without him. I actually would have quit after maximum season 3 if he would have not been there but i still forced myself to watch all the episodes till the finish of season 7 which was so fucking bad 😬🤦‍♂ Season 6 and 7 have basically killed the show for me since they have managed to write harrison wells completly out of the story aswell as cisco ramone. Without this 2 and how BS this "team flash" has become i will try only one episode of season 8 and if i cringe again i will leave and probably never come back.

Remember when your favorite Flash show went downhill in season three? It was me, Barry. I rewrote the scripts at super-speed so the show would become derivative and formulaic so that you wouldn't enjoy it as much. Your brain would release fewer molecules of dopamine, lowering your awareness of your surroundings *just enough* for me to get the drop on you.

I feel bad for Candace Patton, it's not her fault the writers fucked her character up and now everyone hates her character. Candace deserves better. I pray she leaves this show, and gets better roles.
