Just as Chandler starts to propose to Monica, Monica’s ex-boyfriend Richard walks in with a date and the moment is lost. What follows is a very awkward dinner as Richard and his date join Monica and Chandler. When Joey thinks he has to guess on how much a boat costs at Rachel’s charity silent auction, he accidentally buys the boat. Trying to save face with her boss, Rachel comes up with a plan to try and convince the next highest bidder to buy the boat.

There was no falling out of toxicity in their breakup in the slightest. Richard didn’t want kids but Monica did. They didn’t fall out of love with each other. They just wanted different things.
