Three friends inside an elevator amid a large storm in Omaha, Nebraska, found themselves trapped as the lift filled with water in a harrowing ordeal they managed to capture on camera. Tony Luu and two friends took an elevator down to the ground floor of his downtown Omaha apartment building to examine the damage from the storm about 10 p.m. Saturday. The group made it to the ground floor of the building when water began rushing in from the lobby.

@@reaper3509 claustrophobia can be horrible, but.. at least if you're in the US, you shouldn't need to worry about getting stuck in them. Although it'll take some time for someone to come help you, you should be perfectly safe. I've been stuck in them a few hundred times on construction projects (we beat the hell out of them: overloading, hitting them with heavy objects, and various things.) I'd never once saw it fall more than a foot, multiple backup safety features. Although it seems they don't have flood protection. I learned something new.

I think most people only think of fires. If it's a situation that you have never experienced, you're less likely to make good decisions that we, using the power of hindsight, would make. This one fact could've changed their decision to go down in the first place and the decision to take the elevator. I made a terrible decision in a flood when I was their age. Took my little S10 into a flooded road, couldn’t see anything cuz it was night and the water was black. Thought I’d make it, stalled out the engine. Don’t know how, but it started and I was able to back out at around 1500 RPM Max. I swear I had a guardian Angel that night because that should not have happened. It’s a miracle as far as I’m concerned. As I’m sitting here thinking now actually, I thought the intake flooded. Which would have gotten the spark plugs wet, definitely filled the cylinder preventing any detonation of air and fuel if not hydro lock the engine. I’m thinking now I choked the engine out from the exhaust, it only stayed running because I kept the gas down, just enough to get exhaust gas out past the water in the exhaust system but not enough to rev past 1500.

@@kaivonnix1100 During a fire elevators have be drawn to the fire floor. Years ago, the elevator call buttons in high rise office buildings were activated by heat from the hand. Not sure if that is still the case today though. In any event, as you undoubtedly know, water and electricity don’t make a good combination. If water enters the elevator hoist way, or the elevator car, or if the elevator machinery room is in the basement water can cause the controls to malfunction.
