I was in the same situation as Reece for close to two years. I stuck around thinking that he'd eventually notice how genuine and real i was with him, but it never happened. I think it is true what they say about the frontal cortex developin at 25 because something clicked and i ended everything on my birthday. I did it for me because i wanted something deeper. I am now in a new and healthy relationship with someone who wants me just as much as i want them. It is freeing to be able to be vulnerable with someone and to express your love openly and have it reciprocated. That is the best decision i made for myself. I have never been this happy in a rship. The beautiful thing about monogamy is it requires you to commit to someone and - here comes the crucial part - to sacrifice a part of yourself in the pursuit of something greater. Something deeper. Now, it should never come at the expense of losing your entire self to a relationship. Which absolutely does happen in many relationships. But I find FWB and polygamous relationships are often in kind of a weird space where it’s not only about your physical benefits (like hookups) but you are seeing that person regularly and you are emotionally attached to them in some capacity. But you’re not prioritizing them! You’re not willing to sacrifice that piece of you, to miss out on other potential matches, to go devote your undivided attention to that person if they’re going through a difficult time in their life. As they say, to each their own. I won’t shame anyone for the life they choose but I can firmly attest to the fact that sticking with one person and being truthful, vulnerable and committed has made the biggest difference in my life because - fortunately enough - it was met by an equal amount of dedication and love. I wouldn’t trade it for the world and I believe it can happen to anyone, you just have to put in that effort.
