@@srldwgOCD manifests in many ways- it isn't always a 'serious mental illness.' Nobody came out and said it but I'd tend to agree Monica did have a form of OCD, especially knowing she vacuums her vacuum cleaner with a smaller one. She would clean in situations where there was no need. I've got OCD myself and it's mild enough to keep under control because of medication luckily. Another guy with it that I know has absolutely destroyed his hands due to how much hot water and bleach he uses to clean them with, medication doesn't help him.

Monica was like that becoz of her childhood issues with her mom. Her mom never treated her right and always thought she was good for nothing. That's why she made sure that whatever she does should be perfect always.. Childhood traumas really haunt you forever 😢

Did the writers know, I wonder, that OCD is typically found in women whose mothers were constantly picking on them, criticising them, making fun of them, which is exactly what Monicas' mum does. Her Mum is a narcissist, Monica is made to be very aware that Ross is the golden boy and she is a nothing. So her behaviour reflects this, and it's straight out of psychology 101.

What Monica has is OCD, compulsive obsessive disorder. This is something beyond her character and something that she can control. It is caused by genetics, imbalances in brain chemistry, and the environment. Usually individuals are not even aware they have it. It can cause great discomfort and stress, which can lead to depression, anxiety, problems sleeping and can cause issues with work and relationships. It is a real documented problem.
