​@@DFAnton I think people often compare both of them because at surface level both are presented to the viewer through the same paradigm: a cowardly teenage boy who is actually incredibly strong yet is not completely aware of it. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with OP in that Stark's character arc is signaled from start and it delivers from the get go. Stark is treated as his own character that changes and matures through his life experiences, as a teenage boy would. As for Zenitsu... what else is there to say? I'm gonna attempt to give Demon Slayer the most credit I can and say that : it is a different show that tells a different type of story, it doesn't try to be frieren nor should it. It heavily engages with traditional teen shonen tropes in which characters like Zenitsu are common.... But that's as much credit as I'm willing to give: Zenitsu is a very poorly written character in a show with already poor character developement. When he is introduced, his comedy works for a while because we are still under the pretence that his character will be developed at some point. Well, it never will be. He is never once given a moment, a conversation or heck, even a monologue in which he could internalize how he perceives himself in the present. We are given 2 flashbacks that literally tell us he has low self esteem. We also don't know why he teeats women so poorly when no other male character does it? We are never even told if he knows about his sleep fighting ability, he just completely devolves into a nuisance and a joke character. His appearances in the last arc of the anime are EXCLUSIVELY for him to yell, complain, be an incel and try to get some cheap laugh out of the viewer. I could go on, but there are great analyses available by other people on why zenitsu is the worst. I think I've made my point lol Since the main point of my comment was about frieren and not KnY, I don't want to end it on Zenitsu. So I'll just say that something I've recently put into thoughts. Part of why frieren's characters feels so hartfelt is because the author is not only a good magaka( she is!) but because she is a good writer. So many mangaka are good manga artists but are just.... not authors. KnY and shows like it are unfortunately a great example of this.

Even the older guy running the town probably only knows *about* Frieren, but never met her. Himmel died nearly 30 years ago, they finished their journey at the first star shower 50 years before that, and the journey itself spanned about 10 years. Any human who met her during it would be dead or almost 100 years old now, and even then they would've been a little kid at the time.

When Stark explains his reasons for wanting to finish his goal and get back to tell Eisen before he dies is relatable to her. 13:53 Fern's expression on hearing the same reason to hit the rock before Heiter passed has such a huge impact on how she views Stark from here on.

Over half the episodes in Frieren could make me cry, and if i let myself really sit with the emotions there are so many moments I could truly just bawl my eyes out. And so many of those moments the emotions brought out are not even out of sadness. its beauty. The show is just. Beautiful

Many of the character names are German words btw: -"Stark" means "strong" -"Frieren" means "(somebody is) freezing" -"Fern" means "far away" -"Himmel" means "sky/heaven" -"Heiter" means "joyful" -"Eisen" means "iron" -"Flamme" means "flame"

Its a infodrop from the manga i guess: Eisen was afraid by stark. its explained that Eisen was hit by a dragon tail, fly across the whole battlefield into a wall and stand up like nothing. But he has instinctively reflex for defense against Stark. Eisen probably strongest warrior in Frierens universe. I love the OST "fear brought me this far" i rly love the animation about subtle things like siting near to stark or when she find out he is normal xD. Stark the decent bluffer and one hit killer of dragons .. xD "A warrior without fear, is a corpse looking for a place to die, a fool. A warrior with fear, and has the strength to face what he fears, and does what is necessary to protect what he loves, is a hero."

Sometimes, i can struggle a little to remember what exactly happened in a specific episode of Frieren, and in some shows, that could be considered a bad thing, however with Frieren, I actually think its a compliment. Mostly in the sense the show is so good at portrayed the quiet and slow moments, and emphasising small ideas that can be poignant or heartfelt. Like the idea of living interesting lives to share with someone older you love, and ideas similar to that. I also like how the address courage and bravery and fear as well. Its not necessarily just about pretending, but learning to live with the fear in the moment, but counting on the effort and hard work built up till then. Like Stark, and Fern have practiced and learned and developed themselves, its not like they lacking in experience and thus overestimating themselves, just trying to process it as best they can, and relying on their hard work. Which can be important to the dynamic. Glad you two are really enjoying the show. Its very sweet with good messaging.

The "breaking rocks" as training is honestly a pretty Japanese thing. Sure its also pretty general, but a Samurai cutting through a stone is like the ultimate proof of mastery. At least as a trope. It's roughly in place due to tropes im local Japanese legends. Like the split stone in Nara.

I know some people hate the silly sex jokes sprinkled here and there but they have been a staple in manga and anime forever now. In Frieren there is nothing ecchi and they are not mean or degrading so I don't mind them even though of course they do stick out in tone compared to the rest of the story.

This show is really so amazing. Sadly a number of viewers dropped out after the first couple eps and hate on Frieren, the argument is something like "It's just using cheap tricks to make people cry and mistake the story for having depth", even LM here mentioned wanting more than just sadness earlier on. But really every episode is so important to the overall story, it's done beautifully and with awe-inspiring cleverness, the characters are so well interconnected and defined. It ends up instilling more emotions than just sadness, and everyone that sticks with it is rewarded in so many ways which is why Frieren became such an instant and beloved masterpiece.

About death in Frieren, even though accidents happen, I'm pretty sure most named character who'll die will die of old age. I remember seeing a fanart of old Fern on her death bed with Frieren next to her still looking exactly the same. I immediately teared up although it's from fans but if the author ever does that, I'll be crying so much.

I think it was a demon Dragon since it dematerialized like the Demons tend to. They have talked about dragons in other contexts and having gotten horns or whatever but this one just straight up faded away like the Demons in the anime do. Though who knows. Maybe I'm reading into it

And Frieren did say in the previous episode that it had eaten a numerous amount of adventurers. Not to mention attacking the nearby town before Stark showed up. Something needed to be done about it. But it was pretty cool looking. And it does suck that we can't peacefully coexist with them. I'll give you that.
