10:48 To your question as to why Himmel never explicitly told Frieren - it is common consensus that this was subtly revealed in Ep 16 during Himmel's encounter with Old Man Voll. And if you observe carefully, when Old Man Voll recount his sorrow and predicament on losing his human wife, the shot pans to Himmel's face; that micro expression with a tinge of sadness and realization that Old Man Voll's situation mirror his potential relationship with Frieren - is what holds Himmel back.

^this. I also think that Himmel loves Frieren for who she is, meaning that he recognized that, at least in his lifetime, she wouldn’t recognize the feelings he had for her. Himmel is not the type to force things or have a possessive love. I think of the metaphor of the difference between liking and loving a flower

I think you could say it is convenient that the man they're escorting is a jeweler, but it does make him having a find your valuable trinkets spell more of a consequence of his profession than a convenience.

Additionally, the reason Frieren lost her ring in the first place is that the man mentions he sells accessories. He says he runs an accessories shop, which leads Frieren to notice that Fern is wearing a new bracelet. Frieren then takes out her ring, but it is lost when they are attacked.

Sein leaving and going after his friend was definitely the right and most logical thing to do and I´m happy the show respected this. Finally pursuing his wish for adventuring and finding him was the real push why he went with Frierens group, so this will give him the closure he needs. But, of course, we got to like him ver much, so it´s also sad seeing him leaving 😊 And don´t worry, you´ve just seen the first episode of the magical exam arc. There are definitely quite a few new characters, maybe not all, that will really grow on you. I, myself, very much adore one very old character we get to know more. So please go in with an open mind and not some negative pre-assumption.

I also didn’t care as much for the exam arc at first, but I’ve come to appreciate it so much more. There’s actually a lot of nuance and some important themes that come across. I think, like Frieren, we don’t have a big emotional connection to the other characters at first because we’ve just met them. We connect with Old Man Voll quickly because we have Frieren’s perspective and history with him to give depth to that relationship.

I think the reason the new characters might feel a little flat in comparison, is because there is a marked change to the pacing from episode 18 onwards. You are trained from the series to expect a character to only stick around for a single episode at most prior to this section of the series, so you expect them to be introduced and developed more quickly. At least that was my experience, but I like this section quite a bit as well.

I didnt care for the exam arc and characters at the beginning but as it goes on we see more of the new characters and they get more depth and become mire interesting.

if you ended on episode 18 obviously you arent going to care about the newly introduced characters it makes sense himmel knows frieren very well and he also knows that she at that moment wouldnt be able to understand his love and wouldnt want to stay with him. its also explained later in the manga why he knew she would love him in the future and thats why he didnt try to stop her from leaving

I think the Old man Vol episode is to elucidate why Himmel never tried to make Frieren stay with him. He realized when he met old man Vol how painful it could be for a long-lived species to fall in love with a human, and that it could quite possibly ruin her life when he died.

I think in episode 4 ? When we see flammes notes, she tells us about visiting heaven, and we even see it depicted It's real no worry 😌

Episodes 18 to 28 are the final "arc" of this first season. Also divided in three sections, 18 to 22, 23 to 26 and the last two 27 and 28 giving a "closure" to both the arc and the season.

11:00 I won't reveal my take o it, unless you allow me to, but I will hint this: You don't necesarily need to see more between them, there will be futher moments, perhaps even some not written in the manga yet, but so far they remain consistant with what has already been shown about Himmel, perhaps making it more clear.

I've thought about how the series would end and here are my predictions! SPOILER ALERT (that is if it actually comes true)! 1. There is a heaven and by Journey's End Frieren is dying. Just before she dies, she sees Himmel and they talked. She dies and is reunited with Himmel. Time no longer matters. Fern and Stark goes home. 2. Frieren didn't die and get to see Himmel. Journey ends. Party disband. 20 years later Friren shows up at Fern and Stark's house and takes their child/children for another adventure. But I'm not the mangaka, it could still be a surprise!

I'm not sure there is a real heaven. I think by the time Frieren gets to her destination she will have reflected enough on her past and learnt from the present and will realise she did get to know Himmel. So actually taking to his spirit won't be necessary.

Someone explained to me the new ending theme we get after episode 17 is Frieren visiting Fern's grave, and I'm still not okay😢. First we see Frieren finding the grave, then we see the progression of their relationship starting from Fern's childhood, and it ends with Frieren lying down next to the grave and remembering all the times she laid her head on Fern's lap.

I'm so grateful you're reviewinf this wonderful series. I knew you would fall in love with it. Yes, the upcoming arc with all the wizards is, by far, the weakest part of the show. The good part is that there 2 or 3 characters of the new crop that turn out really great and will surprise you. Ubel is trash, though😂😂😂
