The staff are only there to focus their magic projectiles; they don't need them necessarily to cast spells. While you're talking about staff, there's Ritcher on the screen not using one, he only needs to visualize and touch the ground to cast.

I also wanna add Flamme, I never saw her use staff too, but I've seen her cast a spell using her hand pointing in the enemy's direction.

6:04, if you notice Frieren first fire at Denken, she shoots 7 shots in total. At 6:08, only 6 of them hit. She literally sets him up from the beginning.

I might be reading too much in to it but, Denken is fan gurling. His Staff is very similar to Frierens and he knew about her from his generation. The Hero's party is obviously his jam and bought the merch and started his own band. About Flamme teaching Frieren. Eisen said Frieren was Flamme's best student implying more than just her.

Yup we noticed Frieren has Flamme’s earrings if that’s what you mean! Such a small but nice detail to show how much Flamme means to her 🥹 Kind of reminds us of her having Himmel’s ring as a keepsake
