Beautiful horse! I can say some people don't understand horses and there trainers and everyone has there own opinion but the owners are not trying to scare the horse but simply trying to let him figure out the course of jumping on his own. Training a horse does take time. You can see he is starting to understand things with a little encouragement! Great job!

Tara, I just want to give you some serious praise for making sure your boys have lots of active mental stimulation. Under saddle, for sure, but especially when they're free from any tack restraints and choose to interact with you. So often we see the heartbreak of horses living a tied down and repetitive existence. With Apollo and Farouk , over the time of your videos , we can see their characters , intelligence and personalities emerging and blooming . And their love and trust in you. It's as it should be.

@@miamason8024 I’ve heard “they can’t jump” about lots of breeds, especially Arabs, I just think it’s weird lol. It’s probably more a rider issue that gets perpetuated so much people end up thinking the breed is the issue. Some breeds probably shouldn’t be jumped, because of welfare/biomechanical issues that would cause, but in a lot of cases “it can’t jump because it’s a...” is unfounded.

While I wouldn't say this horse was abused I also wouldn't say he had fun during this. The handlers certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves however the horse seemed more anxious, stressed, and confused. He attempted to avoid the jump several times and even tried to stop once. Honestly I think you rushed him and had you gone slower he might have enjoyed it more. Just some words to think about the next time you attempt this? Id start at a walk until he's confident then go to a trot with the pole on the ground. The fact that he continuously jumped the ground pole showed his unreadiness and it saddens me you just kept going as he could have injured himself quiet badly. Glad he didn't. Again though I don't think he was abused. Stressing him out isn't ideal in my opinion though so I thought maybe sharing my thoughts could help in future jumping attempts. Hope you two continue to grow and have fun together.
@Tara1015 жыл бұрын
He has done this before and at the end of the video I have shown links we took two years a go
@haleylahaie37405 жыл бұрын
@@Tara101 I haven't watched those videos but I might check them out. However even if he's already dome it doesnt mean a refresher isnt in place. I do a lot of pole work with my gelding and we've recently had a very rainy winter and spring which means I haven't been able to do small jumps or poles with my gelding for a few months. Even having only been a few months my gelding is no longer great with poles. At a canter he has to jump a pole on the ground when he used to be able to canter a pole a foot off the ground without jumping or breaking stride. I have no doubt that you and your horse enjoy being around eachother as he shows relaxtion around you when you weren't moving him or asked him to do smaller tasks rather than jumping(as im sure he's also more used to these things). But I do think he is uncomfortable with what you were asking with the jumps and that you could have moved a bit slower. I have no intention of offending you but giving you something to consider next time you do it. I am trying to share my thoughts and experiences with you in the hopes of bettering your activities with your boy. If you think im speaking nonesense then there's nothing I can do to force you to listen or act and if you think i might be right then hopefully it helps you and your beautiful gelding.

When your last video said you were doing a "hunt" event on Apollo, it was obvious the term means something different now than it did in my day. Have you done any mounted jumping on Apollo? From what I could see in the video, he definitely has the strength in his hindquarters and the coordination to support a moderate bar height with a rider [he did not appear to be having any difficulty or experiencing strain at 1.05, and looked as if he could do the same with a rider's weight]. I admit that I used to love flying, and still always look at a horse Apollo's size and conformation with that in the back of my mind - not for a competition [competition jumpers are definitely a mental type apart from a pleasure riding mount, and mine literally did not enjoy just a regular ride], but the ability to clear a downed tree or low barricade, even just cavaletti, was just such a sense of freedom. P.S.: Did I hear the background noise right? You've been getting the same downpours we've been experiencing this spring?
@Tara1015 жыл бұрын
yes you heard a downpour it was so heavy we had to wait in the indoor school till it abated. The hunt fun ride, is organised by a hunt for anyone to go on. Apollo has well developed hind quarters so taking the weight off his front legs to jump a metre is no problem to him, he of course is not bred for show jumping the tight turns into jumps would not be possible for him. 😊
@larinvermont32715 жыл бұрын
@@Tara101 I can't remember ever seeing a Friesian in an arena event for that reason; but the strength that was bred into them to carry a human tank/knight in armor must give them some explosive power [that, along with what appears to be a very stable disposition, makes me really disappointed that they simply weren't an evident breed in the States 50 years ago, and I therefore never had the privilege of experiencing the breed's companionship and performance].

good! i wasn’t the only one who noticed. i was like, he can’t do that in one day. you shouldn’t work a hors that much. if he doesn’t want to do it, why should he? us humans don’t, so why do we make horse?
@RPhorses5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same... there are 2 people talking to him... it’s super confusing. Also the running after him is ridiculous, the horse will always be faster + you don’t bring the message over to him. You can choose for a smaller ring so al the atributes aren’t required. And then “good boy good boy” what? He doesn’t even realize what he is doing.... and the one time he didn’t wanted to jump... let him come back and try again... this “problem” should be solved by patience, not by the sound of wips,... he could of hurt him self when the jumps did fall on him and he could of get frightened for jumps...
