at the 30:20 ish minutes mark, that's how it USED to work with cast out and similar effects, back when you chose to send you commander to the command zone as a replacement to it going to the graveyard/exile. now if you chose to put it into the command zone it is no longer tracked by the effect that exiled it. Drew was correct.

My understanding was always that you get to choose to send it back to the command zone and that it is no longer tracked. I tried looking up information on this and got forum posts going back 6+ years saying the same thing.

i thought this too. if commander goes to commander zone, exile enchantments wouldn't be connected to the commander anymore, so them leaving the battlefield wouldn't bring commander back out to battlefield from commander zone.

@DeusExNihilo it does under the current rules, previously it tracked if you sent it to the command zone but now it doesn't track. The reason for this is now your commander goes to exile/graveyard, then as a State based action the player can move it to the command zone. Because of this second move any effect that would pull it from exile/graveyard loses track of it and cannot resolve.

Ryan is wrong about Cast Out. Rule 903.9a says sending your commander to the command zone from exile is a state based effect, not a replacement effect, so it would not return to the battlefield if Cast Out was removed. Ryan is operating on the old interpretation of sending your commander to the command zone.

This shit actually annoys me. Literally played a game yesterday where I had turn 1 sol ring but then drew into nothing but lands and was pretty much useless turns 2-5. I STILL got targeted by the entire table because "hurr durr but turn 1 sol ring bro". I get knocked out first immediately and then the game lasts another 45 minutes.

Bro, as silly as it is, early sol ring isnt good. Ive got a Emry deck, so if i get sol ring and arcane signet in my opening hand, i get my commander turn one. I have never won a game where i did that ​@xrhin0x895

@@nvck9297 What I was mainly getting at is that a lot of players overreact to "splashy" plays like turn 1 sol ring or a turn with a lot of ramp played. Just because someone else gets more mana than you all of a sudden that doesn't make them the instant archenemy threat. Casual EDH players have little to no concept of threat assessment across the board.

I love how no one ever points out like half the rares in this set have a spooky shadow boy alt art that can look exactly like the regular art but with a shadow fiend somewhere in the art. they're all numbered in the 200's and carry separate numbers from the regular versions. Stay Hidden, Stay Silent is one of them.

Drew was playing free creatures from the top of his deck, but I'm pretty sure the card said spells not creatures. (I'm not a very experienced player so maybe I am wrong lol) EDIT: P.S after rereading this 10 minutes later I realized that I am in fact not an experienced player and he was right lol

All cards are spells. When a spell resolves, if it has a lasting effect it becomes a permanent. So if say you play a creature, if I have counterspell I can counter your spell and the creature won't be summoned. But if after casting a creature you proceed to for example cast another one, I can counter the one you are casting, but not the first one, since that one has become a permanent. Hope this helps

theres two things about that, that sadly dont work the way you thought they would. Kaervek deals the damage on the spell cast, which means the only targets available are the ones already in play before the spell resolves. So zacks commander isnt on the battlefield when he has to assign the damage. Secondly the damage is equal to the mana value of the spell and because the commander tax is a additional cost and does not modify the mana value of the commander, it only deals the 4 mana equal to the cost in the top right of the card. There is a land in the thunder junction desert deck, called cactus preserve, which I also thought worked differently. It can turn into a creature with stats equal to your commanders mana value and I also used to think it would increase in stats after your commanders cost increases. Sadly it stays at the same stats since the actual mana value doesnt change. Hope you learned something if youre interested, otherwise I just wish I dont annoy you with the nerd behaviour.
