A couple of points my friend: Teslas work fine in freezing cold temperatures. Sure its true they have degraded performance and shorter battery life, but same is said for gasoline engines. Your fuel economy in sub-zero temperatures is also extremely bad. Its just a fact of life. That being said, EVs still operate in cold temperatures and superchargers work fine too. @@bwaters698 I'm not saying that plug in hybrids are better than gas cars or don't have problems. They just present fewer problems than all electric cars. I'm saying that if the hope was to one day go full electric, the car industry should have focused on a transition period using plug in hybrids first. If they would have done that instead of going all out right away with full electric, it's likely that more people would have adopted them because of all of the limitations of all electric cars.

There is a recent story on why EVs don't sell well in NYC and it comes down to infrastructure (not enough). If you live in a 20+ story apartment in Manhattan there will not be the infrastructure to support charging 30+ EVs out of a 300+ unit complex. Most people do not realize what infrastructure is needed to support EV charging: 1) Massive power substation upgrades (people charge all hours of the day and nights), 2) Upgraded power distribution to apartment building $$$, 3) Upgrades to apartment complex (reflected in higher rent costs), billing infrastructure to consumers. New regulation regarding EVs in residential high-rise garages is being developed as EV fires are extremely hard to put out and due to the extreme heat can damage the structural integrity of these large buildings. EV owners may have to pay a premium or insurance addendum to cover the additional risk.

They just needed to Preheat the battery simply by selecting the Supercharger in the Tesla Navigation, would have fixed the situation. And charge to 80%. If too busy or chargers not working drive to another local Supercharger, again in the Navigation will show you how many stalls open before you go to that Supercharger, just go to another one that is open or go to a CCS charger, Electrify America, EVGO, Chargepoint or a local Level 2 Chargers all work with Tesla's with the CCS adapter.

Yes, I saw tests done on charging stations in sub zero conditions a couple of years ago. This is all EV chargers not just Tesla chargers. But this could have been avoided with adding some kind of heating systems to keep these chargers working. Dumb!

@@rerdavies2 Not unless you are talking about a place that frequently goes -25 or lower. Chicago was -10 to 0 according to WGN. The majority of ICE cars will start with minimal effort at those temps. Most likely reason they wouldn't start would be due to an old or weak battery. Even in that case, a jumpstart and about 15 minutes, and the car will move. I'll take 15 minutes and a jump any day over 8 hours waiting and then getting towed.

Over 25% of the wind turbines in Sweden are down now due to freezing.
