I love how easy they make it look to take the trunion off. Not once have I ever worked on one that pristine! Here's a nugget of advice to any amateurs doing this at home: try to take off the trunion before ordering any parts. There's a good chance that the lock-plate bolts have fused into the trunion and will break off. You'll need to replace both of those parts if so. Try hitting the bolts with WD40 once but don't waste your energy trying to get it off (I see a lot of comments of people wasting hours trying to remove them). Either wrench them until they snap off, or take a cold chisel to them.

Great walkthrough. Was able to repair my washer, though it was a unit with a dryer on top. That made it a bit more difficult.... More than that as Tecc470 mentioned my unit is ten years old. I had a really difficult time removing the trunion bolts. The bolt heads actually came off; the bolts didn't snap but the heads popped off from what looks like a glued on surface. The pulley did not want to come off either. Thankfully I had a donor washer for $100 on craigslist. Was able to swap the entire drum, transmission and pulley. Saving other parts such as the timer, pump, motor ect just in case.

Yes, just finished doing so. The outer drum is difficult to get in/out but thankfully it is flexible enough. The inner drum can be hard to get in/out too but not as much. Maybe it could be made easier by undoing a few of the mounting screws that attach the dryer but I didn't want to go here... Parts for the combo and single seem to all be he same. I used a donor washer I purchased used for $100 for parts.

Late reply, but usually what I do is tie a rope around the bottom of the transmission shaft and loop it around one of my legs. You can use your bodyweight to pull the tub assembly forward enough to pull the outer tub off.

Finally got it off with some PB blaster, screwdriver and a hammer to gently pound it free. I did need to file down the center of the pulley to remove rust so it would fit nicely on the new transmission.

the trunion removal looks easy to get off in the video, it wasn't on mine, my video (if I had one) would show me struggling and cussing on the first bolt, soaking both bolts in liquid wrench, putting a cheater bar on my ratchet breaking the 1/2" socket, going to the hardware store and buying a new socket and a can of PB Blaster, soaking both bolts every 30 minutes for 3 hours, then breaking the head of the first bolt, and its threaded all the way thru, the second bolt was just as hard, but didn't break, the video doesn't show how he removed the piece, I beat on it with a hammer trying to separate it, it don't separate, I later learned its one piece and i needed to remove the other bolts at the bottom and then pull up

Outstanding video! Might I request your input (or from anyone else)? Unfortunately it is not my washer and I am not familiar with the steps of the cycle. I am guessing the stage of the cycle at which I encounter a problem is the agitation cycle. The 1st part of the complete cycle in which the agitator rotates functions properly. In the next stage I believe the washer will not agitate: it will rotate in one direction but is locked solid in the other direction. In one direction it will run but when it reverses the motor trips a fuse or PTC switch which will reset after a short time. I have disassembled the unit. When I try to rotate the pulley on the input shaft and hold the bearing block it will rotate in one direction but not the other. Another clue might be that I am unable to separate the transmission and the outer tub. I even tried to use an automotive suspension spring clamp in reverse to separate the transmission from the outer tub and I was not successful. There is significant build up on the trunnion block and associated casting. I was able to remove the trunnion block but broke a bolt (to give one an idea of the condition).

The washer may have had a small seal leak and now the tub bearing is locked up. If you turn the motor pulley it should turn in both directions one way it will agitate and the other it should spin. If you cannot turn the pulley in one direction. You will need to inspect the tub bearing and see if it is bad. Unfortunately it involves removing the tub and replacing any parts that break from corrosion.

***** Thank you for the input. I think my description might be in error. If I held the bearing block of the transmission the input shaft did not turn in one direction. In the other direction the one way bearing allows the input shaft and the entire transmission to spin (and so turn the inner tub which is solidly connected to the outer casing of the transmission). I found that the output shaft of the transmission was not able to freely rotate with respect to the transmission housing. Likely the cause was corrosion or buildup between the agitator shaft and the inner tub ('outer' output) shaft. Correspondingly I had one hell of a time separating the transmission from the outer tub due to corrosion/buildup. Through brute force I was able to get the output shaft to turn. Unfortunately by that point I had disassembled the transmission (however, this allowed me to observe that everything else was intact and moving freely except the output shaft). For anyone interested the transmission uses a sector gear that rocks back and forth on a small arm to impart the agitation motion. The guts of the transmission appear to be quite bullet proof. I had a small amount of oil on the ground which does seem to have come from the transmission but there is a lot of oil in there. It would leave a huge puddle if it all came out. Any idea what kind of oil is used in this transmission?

HELP!! My washer machine is identical to the one in the video but in my case I have a washer/dryer machine so things are a bit different... I followed every step on the video but I can´t pull out the outer tub as it meets the top dryer when I try to do so, the dryer blocks it! how can I do in my case? Is it neccesary to unmount the dryer??

Pablo Rosario tilt everything away from back wall and lift. I had to remove pulley set screw and lift both inner and outer tubs as one unit due to corrosion.

The video is for the top bearing. To replace the bottom bearing you need a compmete transmission. Ia their a video to replace tje bottom bearing only... One way bearing.
