I really liked how the magic of 90s Sabrina was fun and kooky and NOT tied to Christianity. My pagan friends are frustrated at the trope that witches worship the devil and demons. So I was sad to see that in the reboot. I couldn't get into the new show but it did get me to rewatch the old one! I grew up obsessed with Melissa's Sabrina. I had that PC game too! I happened to catch a few episodes by chance a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was just as enjoyable as I had remembered. I remember actually reading the Sabrina comics at the time when they were adapted more on the ABC sitcom (fun fact, she had a crossover with Sonic The Hedgehog when Archie had the license) and then the series merged with the young Sabrina animated TV show. They basically de-aged her through to magical antics and the cast yet continued the story which I thought was a clever way of bridging the two different shows at the time

Josh was meant to continue into season 7 but his actor chose not to continue and was written out, replaced with Aaron who was introduced through the Scorch story arc. That’s why the engagement and marriage feels so rushed, the writers didn’t change the plans when they didn’t have the legwork they’d have had with Josh. Fun fact, Aaron’s father is played by Robert Picardo, and the episode has a cheesy musical number the cast perform.

The sitcom was a bit before my time, but by the sound of things it seems it inspired a fair bit of my generation's equivalent show Wizards of Waverly Place. I think I remember catching a bit of the cartoon movie on Nick as a kid. Don't think I ever saw any of the show proper. The selection of channels my family's cable provider offered was pretty limited up until the mid-2000s, so I might not have even had the channels it was on.

I loved both adaptations of Sabrina and I even gave the newer ones a shot when they came out. Sadly the lore of the original sitcom was pretty muddy because of the episodic nature of sitcoms and it felt like they lost the plot a few times during its run. The animated series seemed to have it together a bit more story-wise and even became the updated look for the Sabrina comics that were still being made alongside the Archie comics. I owned a couple of these as well as a kid and I remember having one of the cartoon tie-in games for the gamboy color. I feel like the problem with the reboots is they didn't capture the magic of living every day with powers that can help or hinder her. I didn't mind the reboot but it definitely knew the dark tone it was going for.

First off, thank you so much for making this video because I’m a huge fan of Sabrina and I love all three versions of the classic series. However I have some slightly different opinions myself. I’m among the rare fans who actually like Josh a lot and he will always be my favorite match for Sabrina in my opinion. I also love Secret Life especially it has such a really catchy theme song. I like the first cartoon a lot too especially because of the Spooky jar and the fact that in this cartoon the portal to the other Realm was in Sabrina’s bathtub! However Secret Life is still my favorite cartoon. As for the college years I actually enjoy those episodes a lot myself but I respect that they’re not as popular with some other people. Thanks again for making this video! It’s one of my favorites that you have made this year!

I LOVED the live-action show when I first saw it when I was 7-8 years old, and I loved watching the animated series too. This franchise and the rise of Harry Potter was the perfect time to be a kid, because it was all so much fun. I got to re-watch the sitcom in later years when I collected the season sets on DVD and my impression of the show was that it was kinda all over the place, but I liked the first 3 seasons the most, but S6 felt like hanging out with friends, and I liked that vibe. S7 felt like the show was being redundant with its "Teenage Witch" gimmick. As for the animated series, I still haven't watched all of it, and I remember when Netflix and Prime had the series (only 52 episodes for some reason), but I was too lazy to get around to watching it and then it got removed. I've never seen Sabrina's Secret Life, and I only partially watched the Friends Forever movie from a KFC VHS tape and the reason I only partially watched it was because my mom came to pick me up and it was like near the end of the school day as well lol.

The live action sitcom was one of the few shows I remember watching consistently after school as a kid, and Salem was a defining influence for dry and sass based humor for me as a result. This was a pretty good video. I had watched all of the series on Hulu. A lot of the points you made were pretty spot on how I felt about the series after the third season. I felt the fourth season was a downgrade as it cut out a lot of what made the series so charming. Also I can’t believe you didn’t mention that Gwen was a young Tara Strong.

I think I saw a few episodes here and there but I was technically not even supposed to be watching it in the first place since I was like 5 at the time. Still loved it. And I loved the animated show too! It still had a "made for teens" vibe to it, but it was also child friendly enough where you could understand what was going on. And it seemed like they had more freedom to make all kinds of crazy scenes since it was animated and not live action.

Sabrina's sitcom and first cartoon kept me alive through my early childhood. I can't even begin to describe how happy it made me when I was able to go behind my step-dad's back at the same time one of them was playing. But at some point that became impossible. The few chances I had to use the TV never matched up with the times. Until one day. I got it. It was on. The sitcom was playing at the same time I was home alone! It was a rerun leading up to the premier of the series final, too! Ahh so sad. Except I did not feel sad after a few minutes in. I felt disgusted. It sexist af, and I still have a rancid taste in my mouth over it. I couldn't finish the episode and switched over to Animal Planet. The episode was Season 7 episode 19; "You Slay Me". The Bridzilla thing is what upset me so much.

I watched all of Sabrina through WB/ABC Family repeats because I was a toddler through a elementary school kid when it aired, but I didn't watch most of it live, only sometimes, especially since my youngest aunt was around the same age as Sabrina, so she was the target audience. While those repeats were on everyday on the weekdays, on the weekends, the animated series would air... sometimes, like at 12 at noon, but other times, a infomercial, or when it aired on ABC, you'd be lucky to get anything if college basketball or golf wasn't playing, late 90's and the early 2000's without cable or videogames was REAL struggle. I barely caught the sequel series as it aired, and never watched the CG one... Now Chilling Adventures, I watched the first season and Christmas Special, and liked it, then the other seasons fell off... hard, at least she teamed up with the Riverdale part of her lore, just wish it was a DIFFERENT Riverdale. Really bummed the she never appeared in Archie's Weird Mysteries... that was the perfect show for her, and introduced to me to the franchise.

Though I did see some bits of the live-action show (and for some reason I remember specifically Sabrina Goes to Rome was on TV here in New Zealand a lot for a while?!) while it was on I didn't watch regularly, though as a big Disney watcher at the time I LOVED the original animated series. As I get older (was about 2 when the live-action stuff started, and 5 when the animated series started in '99), the more I appreciate both the original live-action and animated series for what they were, and have gone back and watched some of both recently - they both still really hold up for the most part, in my opinion! My sister and I did see some episodes of Sabrina's Secret Life too, and some of the Friends Forever movie, though at the time we were confused because they seemed to contradict each other - wasn't until literally watching this video just now that I realised Friends Forever was made BEFORE SSL lol, so thanks for helping that finally make sense, Jordan! Had no idea there was a 2013 animated series?? Might have to look into it. And then have heard a bit about the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina but it was mostly negative, and it doesn't really seem like my thing so I'll probably give it a miss. (Also it's a shame I never got to play the Sabrina computer games, I looked them up and I think kid me would've LOVED them) One of the most interesting things I can think to add here is that there was a magazine aimed at girls that I think was originally made and sold in the UK, but was distributed in some places internationally (including here in NZ) called Sabrina's Secrets, that included like life advice, beauty tips, the usual magazine fare, BUT also had some fun puzzles, a quiz on the back of every issue (my personal favourite part), AND not to mention 1. Live-action show character profiles which were really interesting 2. A sort of summarised version of the live-action episodes presented like a story - both of these in each issue. I wondered why some of the live-action plots seemed familiar when I was re-watching for the first time in years, and that was why! 🤣

The college era was, indeed, where the show lost me. The issue is that they moved far too fast - the core audience hadn't aged up far enough to really vibe with the transition to College age; they really should have tried something else... Then again, similar issues still exist in new content today, like in Riverdale (and other CW shows). The transitions tend to be too fast for the audience and they lose some of what worked to do it. :x

I was born in the 2000s so i was a bit late to the party, but our local library used to have DVDs, including the animated series. It was strange, but kinda cool in retrospect by the disturbing concepts. I only remember some episodes. One where she thought the life of an adult is pretty rad so she bended the reality with a magic spell to turn herself into an adult and Harvey into an even younger kid who she had to pretty much babysit. This quickly made her realise that adulthood kinda sucks and she only had few hours to undo the spell before it would cement itself as a canon event and become impossible to be undone. It's one of those classic "careful what you wish for" types of episodes. Another I remember was her and some friends doing a sleep over and somehow falling asleep from maybe a curse or something so they had to go to some world to perform a ritual to undo it. That one I remember even less. But, there's been another iteration of this iconic character that I haven't heard people talk about. In the 2010s there was another animated show under a similar name and premise to the previous shows but with the 3D style. It was nice, I guess.

I have watched all of Sabrina to the 1990’s movie all the way to the cartoon. Didn’t watch the Netflix show because it felt so dark.

Awe I used to love the cartoon series- I remember watching the live action show at certain points but it never connected to me like the animated series did until I was an adult watching it back. The cartoon show and movie was something I watched on REPEAT as a kid/tween

Sabrina was a young crush for sure... but now... can we talk about aunt Zelda for a little bit?? 😍

This reminds me of how much I loved this series, even the "bad" seasons

I was 5 when the live action show came out and I did enjoy it but when the animated one came out I was hooked. I really enjoyed it and it taught so many great lessons. Definitely one of my favorite cartoons of all time

I have fond memories of watching reruns of the live-action and animated series as well as Secret Life when it aired. I saw a video a few years back about the cast of the live-action series saying if they had the chance to go back on set they would, as the series would be "Sabrina the Middle-Aged Witch" which would be cool to see as it would be something slightly new and different, but I don't know if that's ever going to come to be

Funny how as a kid (and even now as an adult) I was more interested in the aunts than Sabrina. Shoot, her friend Valerie was fine as heck too. However, the low self-esteem thing would've been a red flag for a potential relationship. Salem was and still is the BEST character in the series. Explains why he's the only character with multiple compilation videos on KZbin and the only one with memes made after him!

Oh boy, I still remember watching the sitcom when I was a kid in the 90s, they would always air it right when I came back from school idk why but the cartoon never got me interested even when it was supossed to be more relatable to me back then

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was always there when I was younger. I never had any problems with it. It’s good to see people still remember and like it.

The College Years were the best! I loved the additions of Roxi, Morgan & Miles (Wish Miles was in S7) even though I do agree that losing the Aunts sucked & the rushed relationship towards the very end was weird there were a lot of fun episodes in S5, 6 & 7.

I got this friend who's so in love with Hart's iteration she dislikes every other, including the original comic character and the Chilling Adventures version. That's quite an interesting reception.

I watch the sitcom from start to finish when it was on and going back now I can tell how much those last few seasons changed things. I remember watching the animated series in reruns, didnt know it was that short.
