I absolutely loved Spider riders when I was a kid. I'm also mildly arachnophobic. I loved how they developed grass hop into a loving father with two adorable kids. I also like how they tried to develop Oracle into a character. Even if it was never much. One of the best things was how they humanized all of the invectids. Changing them from just a malevolent force to a people being lied to and used by a wicked ruler.

I personally really appreciate how this show helped validate my arachnophilia when I was younger. It really sucks when you love something but everyone around you discourages it because it isn't 'normal'. He joked about the whole spider petting thing but that was legit me when I was a kid.

Spider Riders will always hold a special place in my heart, especially that opening theme song, which i still go back and listen to now and then to this day. It was one of those shows that i absolutely loved, but none of my friends gave a shot, so i was left alone to enjoy this incredible show. Hunter and Shadow's friendship, the character designs always stuck out to me as really cool,The dynamic of the main trio, not to mention the huge crush my younger self had on Corona XD You know another old anime that was pretty good back then, Shinzo Wondering when the Shinzo episode will happen. This show was a big part of my early childhood alongside all the other early 2000s shows like Di-Gata Defenders, Ben 10 (OG to Omniverse), Danny Phantom, 6Teen, Total Drama series, Chaotic, Bakugan (OG until Mechtanium Surge), Hot Wheels Battle Force 5, Storm Hawks, heck even Dragon Booster and it’s still a favourite of mine to this very day along with all the others. These shows were amazing and will always have a special place in my heart.

Princess Sparkle who you'd expect as the youngest to be the annoying kid character ended up being this delightful pure hearted kid who turned an early enemy into a friend which helped make the other people of arachna less prejudiced against the non enemy invectid people.

Amazing how many VAs in this show worked on old Capcom games... Alyson Court, Lawrence Bayne, Caroly Larson, even Lyon Smith (he's not credited for playing Magma but you can tell it's him). Stacey DePass may not have been in any games but she did play Rouge in the Power Stone anime.

As someone who was an arachnophile, I ate this show up like a crackhead. I remember watching and marveling at Hunter's increasing brutality as time went on, and I was surprised that the third season didn't touch on why he'd become so confident in violence. I learned much later that Spider Riders never had a third season, and my hopes for quality anime were dwindled forever. 🕷

I remember liking Spider Riders, but it just never completely grabbed me. There are certain key elements from it I remember DISTINCTLY. I remember the transformation sequences, I remember the bad guys having a brainwashed human spider rider so they could use the macguffin key cards. I remember really gravitating towards Magma on the hero side and Stag on the villain side. But that's about it. Also, I can just tell a Bakugan video is on the horizon now lmao

Thank you for doing a review which is not just ripping apart the show like everyone else! It was a great watch! Though, I feel like most of the general gripes in other videos are things that are only issues with the dub, which made considerable changes to the script and overall feel. I would strongly recommend checking out SR in Japanese one day. Let me just add that Aqune was not, in fact, captured. Per official material, she was "taken in" by the Insectors after being lost in the forest, and the mind-control aspect was just done to make her fight, something she obviously wouldn't do given her pacifistic nature. The majority of the time, when she's not wearing her mask, her mind isn't being altered at all. She has said on multiple occasions, even in the dub, that she is with the Insectors by choice and doesn't want to be saved. Just, she's an amazing character with a ton more agency than she's ever given credit for. I feel like most fans wanted her to be a damsel in distress to be rescued by Hunter, and that's not what the show did with her at all, to which I'm eternally grateful! A tragic character for certain, but not a prisoner. See, I didn't watch this show as a kid, Was already in high school when it came out. But it's been a big part of my life ever since, and I was moved by Buguese and Aqune and their story so much. Wish this show was more well known, because they deserve so much more recognition.
