@screw602 That is going to be a connection problem, or just a bad radio out of the box. Was the deck you installed new? Try putting the old deck back in and see if it works.

You need the GMOS-04 interface for the Bose system to work. I just installed today and I have Bose amp, On Star, chimes, and an aftermarket stereo. I used the model from Axxess along with a PAC steering wheel control module. No issues, installed in about 90 minutes today. It's a whole lot of wiring, so have fun with that.

Hi Frisco, I have an '01 GMC Sierra, the previous owner has tried to hardwire a pioneer in. Long story short I have no dash lights and I'v come to the conclusion it's because he mickey moused the radio wiring. My panel feed (purple/white) and dimmer wire (grey) aren't hooked up to anything on the back of the radio. But the thing is the radio only has 4 extra wires after hooking the speaker wires up, ground, constant 12v, ign acc and amp feed.

To those that were having issues getting power to the radio, you need to run a separate 12V wire. I had to do this in my 04 for the radio to work. It was a pink wire near the foot brake. It was something my installer showed me.

Question, I tried following your steps...i have a 06 chevy 2500 and installing the boss system. I did the color for color matching, however when i tried to see whether it was good...the radio did not turn on...I see some people connecting the red wire to the fusebox...do i have to do that? I connected my red wire from the hardness to the radio wire...any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you SO much for your video, great help in getting going. Got a Pioneer DEH-X4800BT for Christmas and this was a big help in getting together a parts list. I noticed you used the Axxess GMRC-02 adapter. My 2005 Silverado has no nav, but ONstar capability. should I use the -02 or is the -04 a better choice for system hook up. Also, the truck has the Bose upgraded audio system for 05. I would assume it has a factory amp. this would also constitute a a difference that I'm finding out with the -02 and -04. Thank You!!! @mrhenderson I believe you remove the mounts from the factory radio and bolt them to the new radio. It has been a while since I did one.

It saves you from having to shop up the dash wiring. There is some stuff in that wiring on some of these cars that if wires wrong, can cause airbag issues, and other problems. Back in the day, we would cut the wires and splice it in. These days it is required at a stereo shop if you want them to install it.

After watching your video, it looks like a piece of cake. I have the same truck model and same factory stereo you had. How did you listen to iPod/iPhone? Was that with the Aux or did the factory stereo have a USB port in the back?

@termkk There is a kit for that. Go to the metra website and look up your truck. If you do not use the kit you have to cut the wires.

Nice Video. Very helpful. GM does not mix metric and imperial screws. All of the fasteners on that pickup are metric. - edit - I take that back, the screws attaching the calipers to the hubs are imperial. The rest are metric, even the lug nuts.

good way for everyone to check if they need this or that is metra's fitguide website. metraonline anything that says GMOS or GMLAN is going to require a relatively expensive harness. it has a lot to do with the R.A.P. (stereo stays on until you open your door, warning chimes, etc.) As far as needing a dash kit for a specific vehicle, if you see any kind of DDIN framing, you should have it. You're going to have problems otherwise. If you're changing a deck, plan on it.

Im putting a 1200 watt amp and sub in my 2008 chevy hhr, but first i need to replace the stereo. I already have a double din headunit that fits, but after you talked about the warning system attachment for your truck, i looked them up. The one that fits my car is $150! What happens if i do not install this? Is there another way around this? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Did you have any issues with an ignition wire? I had a 02 Chevy venture that the after market wire harness did not include the ignition wire so I had to run it to the interior fuse box which worked fine. I now have a 05 Silverado. Will I have to do the same? I noticed you were able to just "plug and play" with the wire harness. Thanks

@Lasurge1982 No it does not. There is a whole separate set of issues with the bose system. The truck I have now has the bose system, and it is proving a lot more expensive to change.

According to Crutchfield, There's a bar that has to be cut out for the new stereo to fit. Did you have to do that?

where do i find the "GMRC-02" module? also, is it possible to keep steering controls for the new radio? and lastly, I currently have an Alpine 4-Channel amp with 10" sub...nothing, impressive, but I would like to replace my stock radio now, since it does the "initializing" all the time!...how many RC outputs does the new aftermarket radio need to be compatible with my amp....thanks for the help!

Go to Crutchfield .com and put in your vehicle info and it'll package everything together for you. Cheapest you'll get the whole kit too.

Thank you for the videos of the install. I was recently in a chain store that does installs and they tried to tell me I required a $104.99 harness if I wanted to change my factory radio. Have you heard of this? They called it Axxess - Aftermarket Radio Installation Kit for Select GM Vehicles Model GMOS-01. I own a 2006 Silverado as well.

might throw it in tonight.. harness is done.. dealer told me id need to find ignition power and id lose my factory chimes.. i hunt and i dont wear my seatbelt.. that will not hurt my feelings lol.. so that said.. the truck side harness they gave me 9$.. had a red wire that said ignition power lmao so id about bet im gonna throw this thing in and it will work just fine and i dont have that annoying bitch telling me to buckle up :P

Wade Hannon ok.. went to put it in.. it didnt work.. and no ignition power on the factory side harness on the red ignition wire.. so.. i will cut that tomorrow at work and tap into the brown black ( i think it was) on the center plug for the heater which is key on power and it stays on until the doors open also.. its 12v.. going to just throw a few amp fuse inline for insurance.. that should be ok though.. ill jump back on here tomorrow let you know how i made out..

bob bell hey wade.. so what i did is.. the truck side harness i got came with a seperate red wire with a little copper piece.. if yours has that it fits right onto a prong on one of your atm fuses on the side of the dash.. i used the fuse for cruise since it was there and i dont have cruise control.. wierd but it was there and its a 10a fuse put that prong on, connect the red wire (if you have or make one and tap into that fuse.. parts store should be able to get you a atm fuse tap) to your red wire for your deck.. make sure when you connect to the fuse its the prong twords the rear of the truck.. that's the fused side (dont want the power side of it) ill post a vid this weekend if that's too confusing i hate typing

@aaled81 I have a Kenwood radio in my truck, and it does allow for the steering wheel control to be wired to it, if you want to know if a specific radio has this feature ask the geek squad guys in the audio department of Best Buy, they know A LOT.

If you have steering wheel controls like my 2006 Silverado does radio will of pull like it does on this video. It was really difficult to disconnect harness from back of stereo.i had to loosen a/c duct to get hand in back of unit. I got cuts on my hands

Sure would have been nice if you had told us that the damn coax for the antenna has ZERO slack in it and now it is going to be a great big pain in the ass to get it back in the radio. I fiddled and pulled on the coax and tried to make some slack but no luck. There is no way to put the coax back in the radio, I have pretty small hands. So now I have to buy a 12" cable extension. So everyone be advised this may happen to you. The main harness has enough slack to plug into the radio before slipping it back in place.

Um...can you use an aftermarket stereo using the existing Bose Speakers that GM uses? It seems to me that the audio would not sound very good if you do this. Let me know.

Yes you can. You have to buy a wiring interface to retain your factory bose system.

this was solved, you need to hook up one of red power wires to one the ignition wire and also it wont power on if your antenna isn't plugged it.
