Great video! Pay no mind to the people who know nothing of this kind of boat and the racing history behind them. My dad Charles Spragg owned and raced the 004 Spooky boat to a Hi points championship in 88-89 flat bottom blown gas. I love these boats. The owner of the 004 boat now is a guy named Steve Faist I believe out of Calf. I have been trying to contact him via Facebook, but no reply. Anyway....great video. Good content! Keep it coming...

@@FastLoudPhotography In the drag boat racing venue, "warmups" draw HUGE crowds. Hard to describe in words and video doesn't really capture the beastly sound of those motors. My first experience was with my aunt and uncle's Top Alcohol Flat drag boat, the War Party 556. When my uncle fired it up and hit the throttle, it was like being injected with pure adrenaline. That was almost 20 years ago and I've been a huge fan and supporter of the venue ever since. He passed in 2010 and the funeral services for my aunt are being held today. Thank you for the video. It captures the essence of the origins of drag boat racing.

@@FredFukkinBear First of all, my condolences to you on your Aunt. Thank you for the comment. I think its one of my favorite comments I've ever received. I remember that boat. So glad you liked the video. I get a lot of rude comments and unsolicited critiques, so its nice to hear from someone who actually appreciated it and had a memory connected to these boats like I do. My dad was a drag boat racer and it has never left my DNA. Thanks Fred.

@FastLoudPhotography
@FastLoudPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Brendon Kelly ohhhhh... no shit? Learn something new everyday!! Yeah, turbos aren’t a common use on these types of boats. I’m not an engine expert, but my assumption is due to the need/desire for instantaneous throttle response. No turbo lag. On the other hand, turbos are widely used on the offshore boats (see my other videos like LOTO shootout or Big Cat Poker Run , for reference). These are designed for long distance, high speed cruising which makes good use of turbo’s high-efficiency and reliability without need for instant horsepower. They throttle up slow and steady and run at extended high speeds. Thanks for the question!! 💪🏼

I totally get where you're coming from, but the truth is that these boats are going through a huge resurgence out here on the west coast. Mostly guys in their late 40's and 50's who, like me, grew up on them as the family boat. Now they're restoring them and running them again at grass roots gatherings taking place at lakes and rivers all over California and Arizona. But I do agree, they're an acquired taste.
