This might be the best sound and song by MR. Johnny B. Killing it on drums. William's voice is a bit strained but fits the style perfectly. Great keyboards and guitar tone. Excellent mix.

Really makes me miss the Rocket's, although I still love Lou and MR

Such great memories. Remember going to the Village in downtown Detroit in the early 60's. Mitch was Billy Lee then, singing soul and R&B. He later formed Billy Lee & the Rivieras, which became Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.

Wow this is crushing, I just listened to Alice's new version which is based off this, Alice sounds great but the energy here is just so rockin! Love it. The crowd shot cracks me up they should be up on there feat.

Finally found my earworm! Lou wrote a fine song but the licks and cowbell are the hook I couldn't get out of my head. Mitch made it great.

Thanks for the lyrics. What Mitch and his band Detroit did with this Velvet Underground song in 1971 was the equivalent of The Byrds reinventing Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man."

Love Mitch. R and R !!!!!

The best version of R&R It's Alright ever recorded. This one has real rock & roll. The Velvet Underground's version sounds like a cross between the Archies and Bob Dylan.

Lou Reed even liked this version. Another interesting thing about this version, The Runaways' debut album contains a punkish garage 'R&R' that chooses to approach it the same way. It's pretty good for a young Joan Jett & Lita Ford. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYqploxnhch3pdk

Mitch is singing his ass off. I always preferred the Velvets original to the Detroit cover, but there is no denying this man's talent. God bless Mitch Ryder!

In roughly 81-2, My Late best friend Albert Norris got me a chance to Roadie a Mitch Ryder and the New Detroit Wheels concert at the Jackson "Michigan Theater". The House was Packed and the music was tight. No Jim McCarty but still a great show.

With all due respect to Louis Reed, this is THE rocking version. Love seeing Jimmy McCarty and Johnny B up there! Btw, if it weren't for Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner, Lou wouldn't have been more than a blip

The notes at the top say the original was Detroit Wheels in 1971. Actually the band that did that was named Detroit, not Detroit Wheels, which was an earlier band of Mitch's.

This was covered by the Runaways in the 1970s; a bunch of 15 year old girls playing kick-ass R&R including Joan Jett, Lida Ford and Cherrie Currie.

Velvet f...king indelible...no denying, and Lou's the genius composer, but the Detroitification by MR is also way cool. One doesn't cancel or denigrate the other...view it as a tribute to the Underground.

The film credits have German names; Mitch is big in Germany and tours on Europe regularly; my guess is Germany.

It sad that these talented rockers have to play to empty halls, all because of their deal with the devil.
