Keenan, you are awesome and truly one of the stars of the sport. To all the traditionalist and the Helio filter crowd - this is a tournament technique designed for sport BJJ. On the street this would never even be considered! Take it for what it is. A way to play sport BJJ.

Nice to see JiuJitsu evolving every year. People will argue this is not what GM Helio taught, but Konde Koma to GM Carlos to Helio evolved as well. Next year we'll something better.

We did this yesterday and when you pull off the technique of the day during rolling, you get $5! I got $15!!!!!!!! This totally works. I'm making it one of my go-to's

Sometimes when playing this guard I like to put the soles of my feet together on the tail of the lapel and pretend that I'm spider-man. Because I am a weirdo.

How do you make sure the left foot (or weak side foot) makes it to the elbow, and what’s your option if your opponent grips that leg and kills it ?

Can u omoplata from there?
@TheGloribox11 жыл бұрын
yep, when u move your hips for the sweep, just put your right leg up on his shoulder and don't forget to hold the lapel on his neck or he will push you down and pass your guard ;). I actually use the omoplate mostly like a sweep 'cause it's hard to make him tap in this position

It's possible and people will go for it but by pulling the lapel tight they can't arch/lean back to finish the foot lock

@hzuiel10 жыл бұрын
In high level competition, sometimes getting to half guard or side control for just a few seconds is the most significant thing that happens the entire match, which is how it should be. Black belts shouldn't be leaving huge holes in their defense because of unchecked aggression, and they know how to defend more things, so you should in theory see less exciting matches, the more skilled the opponents get. Less submissions, less taking of controlling positions, and a lot more stalemates. It's just the nature of refining and honing your skills. Keenan is mixing it up so as to find ways of doing things that their opponent hasn't practice defending, and maybe hasn't even seen before, and yet you don't like that? Lol.
@bigThunk98310 жыл бұрын
To you it may be "all that work" but to Keenan it's a basic , simple, move.

Looks pretty interesting, but you're using a bluebelt as training partner. I highly doubt any bluebelt will be able to accomplish all those multiple (and complex) steps! It seems like it may be hard on the knees...

@FFmaxxx11 жыл бұрын
imo it is....jiu jitsu was always meant to evolve. theirs def a split for sport vs martial art...but imo it just gave it more creative ideas to apply jiu jitsu.

Helio Gracie and his brother Carlos took Japanese Jiu Jitsu and revolutionized it. Traditionalists said that was not Jiu Jitsu. I'm sure Helio wouldn't mind these new developments, and yes, it's still Jiu Jitsu
@jitteryjoe11 жыл бұрын
So... you like holding closed guard for 30 minutes and looking for cross chokes?
@waldomarek11 жыл бұрын
DeeDubb1983 can someone actually tell me how the gracies "revolutionized" japanese jiu jitsu? i do japanese jiu jitsu and don't see what is revolutionized about it. also, to be precise, the gracies took kodokan judo (which is NOT japanese jiu jitsu) and "revolutionized" it, but even then i fail to see what has changed to call it a complete different style.
@FargoBJJ11 жыл бұрын
waldomarek No the Gracies did not learn Judo, they learned 'Kano Jiu-jitsu'... Maeda left Japan to spread 'Kano Jiu-jitsu' before the term Judo came into existence. and Jigoro Kano's focus in Jiu-jitsu was realistic training and focusing on the grappling and throwing... which was DIFFERENT the the traditional Jiu-jitsu school's of the day

@ratmurderer4 жыл бұрын
One of the most bullshit techniques I have ever seen. Convoluted, waste of energy and even with a participant that is allowing to move without resisting, this guy still has trouble applying it. Let's not even talk about how you wouldn't be able to spin and move in the way that is needed on any high friction surface, like a concrete sidewalk or a tar driveway. Reminds me of some silly "technique" you would see in a John Wick movie.
