This seems like an LCL tear waiting to happen. I wouldn’t try this with anyone other than a trustworthy training partner. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Totally agree. First instinct on anyone that sees that knee is to push it until it pops. So what kind of defense is that ?

Serious question... what's stopping him from just throwing his leg and all his weight into your ankle to pressure the knee joint sideways? It seems like the knee is isolated and he's got the ability to seriously torque it. Now maybe that would be a DQ in a tournament setting and so they aren't incentivized to do it, but realistically is that a danger?
@llai85013 жыл бұрын
Anatomically this technique is very bad for your knee, sure he says you should only use it to stop a knee cut and then the guard, it's just a bad position to stay in.

As someone who loves ankle locks (including from that position); the sleeve control makes a difference (with or without the quick transition to spider). If they reach with both hands for the ankle, or post anywhere but your far / outside shoulder, they concede access to your belt / hip / pants / back (not immediately, but there are options). In contrast to that, if they pass the foot to the other side with the downed knee (like a pseudo-50/50) then you can't take the back. Again though, I think it's the sleeve control that make the difference here.

Nice. But often the knee cut comes when the dude leg drags my leg between his legs. How do I get the foot to his hip if he has pushed my leg between his legs? Speed? Or pre-empt ie fight it?
@firedrive453 жыл бұрын
Caio Terra showed a counter to it, involving De la Riva hook. Lets say they push right leg between their legs, use your left foot to DLR hook. Then right foot goes behind the butt, reinforcing the hook. Grab the ankle with left hand (or pants). Then you pull the guy over you. You want to have some collar or sleeve grip when that happens. They will lose balance, allowing you to reguard or go to X guard.
