Oh wow there should be a mod that litters about 59 bombs and warheads around major targets. They could be little flavor landmarks, since almost every settlement would have one, they would be associated with the Mojave. NCR troopers posing next to them, with graffiti or an atomic wrangler ad painted on. You could have a multi faction quest where NCR wants to ship them back west, Followers want to dismantle them, Brotherhood trying to get 6 guys in power armor to fit one through the door at hidden valley.

1) If they are ICBM warheads they likely would flatten into a pancake on impact, since they go at like mach 20 or something. 2) even if there were any left, the whole quest would have already been solved by the time the game starts, with warheads being long gone, scavenged, destroyed or smuggled by wastelanders. Keep in mind that New Vegas takes place centuries after the War.

@@Horesmi it’s been shown that the bombs were fat man style bombs with the remaining y exploded bombs in megaton and the un exploded nuke encounter in 76 although I do find it weird that the sub in 4 had icbms

Not surprising really. It's uncommon and visually unique, directing attention to slower, more careful reading. Not to mention the length would limit the habit of bookending the first and last letters to read at a glance. whereas atomic is quite literally how one would bookend automatic, which is a more common word that would take priority when reading quickly.

The crater with the car pileup near Jacobstown couldn't be the result of a nuclear explosion. If the bomb struck that part of the road, why would the cars still be there? They would've been atomized, or at least heavily mangled beyond all recognition. I think it's just a sinkhole. The underpass at Searchlight Airport doesn't seem like a bomb crater, either. That one is just a standard structural collapse. I agree with all the other ones, though. I didn't know there were two craters outside the playable area of the map.

I don't think the last one was a bomb due to the cars being there, if they aren't vaporized, they would have been blown far away. And black mountain got hit a couple times. It is possible the place with 2 craters was 2 different bombs, maybe they didn't explode but their speed/velocity was still enough to make those craters, and has long since been picked up since it has military strategic positioning

I'm mixed on the cottonwood cove crater. It just doesnt look like a nuke site to me. Reminds me too much of devil's kitchen or whatever need the divide entrance. Where I dont think a nuke hit right there but the radiation run off settles there

The ones we see are recreations of Little boy which is very weak compared to our portable nuclear tipped artillery rounds. Usually when its bigger, it means they haven't refined it yet, the original had so much space and stuff that could be taken out. But it seems like they had a slew of Nuclear weapons. but seriously, a dirty bomb? what are they North Korea now? If it was vault teck that started the war using their own bombs, see the symbol on both, thats vault teck symbol. And as they werent so rich they couldn't afford larger bombs so probably used larger versions like the ones liberty prime uses, or getting the large bomb would have been too obvious

Besides those couple of bombs mean very little, Wild Wasteland is of questionable canonisity, and Megaton is made out of bits of plane, so that bomb could easily be from a USAF bomber that dropped it's payload before crashing nearby during the Great War and was later salvaged to make bits of the town. Besides, you really shouldn't read much into specific game assets, look at the Yangtze, early in development it was a US sub, but they changed it to be a Chinese one and didn't replace a single asset even though China is long established to have a completely different design asthetic (I mean they didnt even change the wall colours or US posters), or the USS Democracy in Far Harbour, it's just a cut up Yangtze (inside and out). Bethesda has a bad habit of recycling assets it's one of the reasons they get accused of laziness so often.

So if these craters are from nuclear bomb why are they so small, if these were nukes the craters would be way way bigger and way bigger than the one in the glowing sea in fallout 4 both America and China had nukes the yield of 200-750 kilotons and still the craters are still to small even for a yield of 200 kilotons, so thoes craters look like regular bomb craters rather than nuclear bomb craters
