This is the only gear bump that I would go for, simply because of the apparel. Any more early game character hack is going to render the game boring. Like FFS, just bump your XP 50k and level up way before going out of Goodsprings and basically wreck the whole Mojave up in few hours, then delete the game. Lol

The NCR emergency radio gave me ammo for my energy weapons when i was short on it. 10/10

Nah best armor in the DLC is Ulysses Duster. Riot gear is for NCR soy boys. +still has best armor effect (+5 crit%) +light armor perks (+crit%, +movement speed) +3 lb, weighs almost nothing +repaired with 90% of enemy armor, even clothing which weighs 1 lb (Jury Rigging)

It’s still largely impactless in the moment, but I think the point of the death fakeout is to help justify Ben’s decision to leave at the end. If Grandpa Max thinks Ben has died, even for a brief moment, it explains why he encourages him to agree to the terms, which is outright stated with the “at least I know you’re alive” bit. Since Ben looks up to his grandpa throughout the entire series, it’s more in character for him to surrender because of this than the threat alone.
