My grandma made this ALL the time, and I loved it! I had forgotten all about Frog's Eye salad until I watched this. By the way, I've just recently discovered your blog and your channel, and I am so inspired. And I was reminded of the 1906 "cookbook" I have that gives you not only recipes, but also home decorating, dressing, etiquette, raising children, and MORE. It's such an amazing book and now I want to try some recipes. Maybe the squirrel pie. ;)

My grandma made this for my wedding..lol. It was so popular, everyone loved it. She didn't call it frog eye salad, she just said it was a pasta fruit salad. She also added chopped walnuts.

I love frog eyed salad. My grandmother would make it and I was taught how to make it. I actually didn't know its a mormon thing, but my grandmother is mormon, I am an ex affiliate. It is called frog eyed because of the pasta, they look like frog eyes.

The first time I had the salad, it was made by a coworker who is LDS, but I also have a recipe for it in a Lutheran church's cookbook, so I think it's safe to call this a nondenominational recipe. :)

This reminds me of a "salad" my family makes for thanksgiving, Watergate salad. It has pistachio pudding mix, marshmallows, crushed pineapple, and Cool-whip.

A recent transplant to Salt Lake City, I had Frog Eye Salad as a side dish to a sandwich at a diner! I'd never heard of it before, though we always had Ambrosia Salad growing up in Texas. Another Utah thing I had is Funeral Potatoes, which are great, but strangely named, too!

Frog Eye Salad is SOOOOOO yummy! Used to make it for pot lucks and would use the whole box of pasta. Had to mix it in my biggest soup pot because it made so much.

Seems a little bit like "Sunshine Salad" which was marshmallow, crushed pineapple, orange slices, with some of the juice retained. We also had orange salad, which replaced the marshmallows with orange jello, and the actual orange slices with shredded carrots.

Another winner video! I remember that frog-eye salad from my childhood, except it had peeled seedless grapes that I -- like another commenter here -- believed to be the frog eyes. That one would be delish at a retro brunch. And the modern version will be served this week!

+Making It Modern Auch, heavens no! Those were the peeled green grapes you find in fruit cocktail. You can (or could then) buy them in cans by themselves. They made for an eerie suspension of "eyes" in "Ghost Jello" at Halloween.

I’m from the south, so I can tell you that I’ve had these types of “salads” that are definitely desserts and not salad, at church potlucks and family luncheons my entire life. As a kid they were always my favorite cause it was the dessert you got to have WITH your meal.

That original Frog Eye Salad is SO high glycemic ! No wonder diabetes is very prevalent in our culture. Bethany, your version is of course healthier. Good nutrition; no sugar, no flour, should be the highest priority.

+Deborah Sauter It really was cloyingly sweet, which I have to admit I liked! LOL! I believe in all things in moderation, even moderation but also agree that cutting back on sugar, flour/gluten and adding vegetables/fruit to your diet is very important.

I don’t think the original one would be all that gross - pasta doesn’t have a taste on its own - probably taste like tapioca pudding - which I actually like.

Man, could there be a more off-putting name for a dish? lol I've eaten frog's legs but I draw the line at frog eyes! Unless the original recipe used real whipped cream, I suspect Frog Eye Salad is less than 50 years old as I don't think Cool Whip came out until the late 60s.
