Josh's Frogs

Күн бұрын

This is a video tour of my (Zach's) frog room. I work for Josh's Frogs, and seem to take my work home with me :D I focus mainly on different morphs of Dendrobates tinctorius and Dendrobates leucomelas poison dart frogs, and have over 60 vivaria in my frog room.

They can, but keep in mind you don't have to pull the eggs and tads to raise them. Leaving them in the tank will make the frogs breed less.

It's actually not very bad. I insulated the room well to save on energy, as well as use more energy-efficient lighting (that also produces a bit of heat, so the heater doesn't need to run as much). I also position the vivaria in certain parts of the room so that they naturally stay warmer or cooler (instead of trying to heat/cool each specific vivarium).

All of the amphibians I keep are completely non-toxic in captivity. All captive bred dart frogs are harmless - they derive their toxins from the bugs they eat in the wild.

I use HOT5 lighting on the vivaria. These are more for the plants than the frogs - the frogs could really care less about the lighting.

Besides money, have invested considerable time and effort in your installation. You respect animals. Congratulations, nice to see your videos. keep it up. Happy new year from Spain.

I have hundreds of frogs (I honestly don't keep an accurate count), and generally have between 500-1200 tadpoles. The room never gets lower than the mid 60s, and higher than 78F. I currently only work with Standard lamasi, as far as thumbnails go. We have several varieties at work.

Watching this video horrifies my girlfriend because she's worried i'll get as many as you hahah. :) Thank you so much for sharing your passion, and you're truly lucky to work with something you love so much. I know this is an old question, but in case someone new sees this the answer is generally no. I have a number of frogs from Josh's Frogs and they typically sell froglets, which are too young to identify. Occasionally they do sell either adult pairs or adult proven breeding pairs so you'd have to keep you eyes out for those and take whichever morph they have. They're also considerably more expensive than buying 2-3 month old froglets.

What are the names of some arboreal dart frogs? I want to get frogs for a 36 inch high vivarium. Are your mint frogs arboreal?
@joshsfrogsvideos5594
@joshsfrogsvideos5594 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Terrie, The mints are very terrestrial. they will climb but not very often nor for very long. Leucomelas are the biggest semi arboreal type. they will climb but do spend the majority of their time in the lower reaches of the vivarium. You would be looking for thumbnails. Most thumbnail dart frogs will spend the majority of their time if not all of it up in the plants and upper portion of the tank. Here is a link to the thumbnails on our site. www.joshsfrogs.com/frogs-for-sale/all-poison-dart-frogs/thumbnail-dart-frogs-for-sale-1.html

Can i keep a couple terribilis mint in a paludarium 45X45X45 centimeters?
@joshsfrogsvideos5594
@joshsfrogsvideos5594 7 жыл бұрын
I would say yes with caution. Dart frogs of all kinds are Terrestrial frogs for the most part. They have the ability to swim but are not built for swimming efficiently or for long periods of time. The number one thing to do to ensure you have a successful dart frog paludarium is to ensure that all bodies of water are very easy to get in and out of with access to land on multiple sides of each water source. The other thing to consider is how much water vs land there is. A 45x45 may seem like a large footprint... but if you use half of it for water or water features that leaves much less for the frogs. All in all, yes you can achieve a paludarium in that size tank with Mint Terribilis as long as you are designing it with consideration of the frog's needs. Thomas
