I love and adore Frankie Howerd! Thanks SO much for posting these interviews! I've never seen them. I first discovered Frankie Howerd in "Up Pompeii!" on PBS when I was a little kid in the 1970s. It's still one of my favorite British sitcoms. The movie was even better. My favorite movies of his are Up the Chastity Belt and especially The Runaway Bus, which was his very first one. Comedy gold! R.I.P. Frankie Howerd! Oh, no, missus! . . . Titter ye not!

Genius. True funny man of which we never see the likes of nowadays. There are some funny people still around. But not of the likes of Frankie Howerd, or Tommy Cooper. So missed. Thank god for TV and film so we can still laugh at these great comics.

Four years on and I've revisited this. The strange thing is, as Parky says, his routines were all WRITTEN - complete with oohs, aars and everything - yet he was never better than when he improvised - which he was VERY adept at doing...

Eric and Ernie rehearsed everything to the point where everything was eliminated that wasn't hilarious. Each ad lib perfected long before the recording. It is foolish of Parkinson to make such a scathing introduction. Every comedian does it, every boxer does the same thing. Can you imagine the team that Parky had to prepare for each guest? You should look up his Interviews with Robert Mitchum, he trotted out the same old questions and Mitchum treated him with the disdain he deserved. Mohamed Ali did the same.

Thanks for this! A BIG drop-off after pt 1, but I stuck with it, 'cause I MISSED this retro and although I saw the second interview first time around, I NEVER saw the first. Frankie was GREAT. I MET the man in the mid-Seventies - but sadly, I didn't know he was having a dry period and said casually "Haven't seen you on telly for a bit". The man CRUMPLED - and I've never forgiven myself, even though I had no way of knowing, as they were still repeating "Up Pompeii" at the time. I have him at...

Now we see why Parkinson gave such a terrible introduction, he was made to look very shallow and predictable while Frankie Howard showed just how well he could cope with the unpredictable.

There is a clip of his standup at s university. He said he isnt very academically inclined. Someone in the audience said’hear hear!’ Then frankie added sarcastically’ thats why i feel so at home here!’ Ha ha. Good one!
