We were talking about this man today at work. The global king of humour. My friend said that although he was posh, he was street and could make anyone-any culture- laugh-a messianic power-by just sitting with them for a minute-getting a feel-and then putting his foot in. My Irish Dad was very objectionable to privilege-but he said this man is just the funniest man ever-watch the World Champ Black Boxer crease when he starts on Parkinson-can walk with Princes and Paupers-John Lennon worshipped him

Good joke about Tubular Bells! PC was a great character actor, just watch the Clive Anderson Talks Back series and gasp... Monty Python and countless other comedians all stand on Cookie's shoulders. RIP

The more we look back, and the more we are told that it has been discovered that he was a groundbreaking genius, the more we realise he wasn't. He was an extremely fanciful fop with a thick veneer of incrusted conventionalism that melted under the spotlight into whatever wobbly shape the headlines took. He was also a reliable example of what is best about English humour - being daft. When he wasn't being daft, he was being an aloof cow about town, fitting in so that he could stand out as viciously not bothered. He was a genius only in the areas where nobody says he was, so I won't tell you where they are, as finding them would spoil it for you. In case anyone's confused as to to whom I'm referring: don't be.

he made himself a reputation by never having anything nice to say about a new film. He was insulting. Nowadays it's the fashion, but in the 1970s it was new

Actually thought he looks quite perky in this clip His hair is grey, but he doesn't look so bloated and sweaty as in some clips.

Peter Cook, Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers....that's it...that's all you need for the root cause of comedy for all Mankind. Anyone else is just a copier or emulator...yes even my beloved {Pythons...they merely took note and built upon what these men had done. Cook was a sheer fucking genius, Millligan went mad churning out Goon shows at a rate of one a week as well as other writing commitments and well Sellers we all know of his productivity. There were other funny men in the golden years of British comedy (the yanks really don't know how to do it) but they all got their inspiration from these guys. The two Ronnies...yes great but simply mimicking these guys, Python stole so much of Cook and (Dudley) Moor'es early work its not funny...

Six minutes of that bloody Clive James at the start talking out his arse. Then finally when we get to see Peter, Clive insults him with " Do you know what a hung parliament is?"
@diggerpete933410 жыл бұрын
Clive was probably very respected by Peter Cook since Clive had interviewed him on several occasions and Cook had free flowing things to say and joke about.

Carnation77 Since 1977 I think Clive wanted him to make up something silly .
@johndoez43548 жыл бұрын
I get the impression this has been slightly scripted in advance, i.e. Cook has been sent the questions beforehand, and is doing some improvisation around some jokes he has prepared in advance. It happens a lot more on chat shows than you might think.
