If you asked me how to sight in a rifle the best way I would tell you to hand it to my dad. As a kid every rifle we owned had been sighted in by hand, no sled no sandbag, by my dad and you could shoot twigs in half with them it always blew my mind. It was like he did some magic on them that made them hit right where you were aiming every time.

Hey brother thanks for the video! Quick question as a 68yo who wears glasses I shoot twice a month live fire and probably 20 times a month dry fire. You switched glasses to your shooting glasses, did you go to a particular optometrist that understands shooting? Because I’ve not found one in Houston that can help me. The last one I think was 12yo, they seem to get younger the older I get. Just curious what you thought. I know this is not the purpose of your video and I apologize! Have a blessed day!

No. I use readers and Fort Knight Optics. Just shooting glasses. I can’t see inside my hands well, but beyond that it’s fine. Most scopes have a focus/di optic adjustment on the back lens as well as a parallax adjustment on the left side of the scope. Between those two you should be able to fine tune it to see through the scope. I can’t see to adjust my MOA/MIL so I have to go by the feel, pull back far enough to see, or use my readers 😂

If you zeroed at 25 yards with a 223/5.56mm you now have an identical POI/POA at 250 yards. That simply means the bullet passes upward to the POI/POA first at 25 yards then descends to the POI/POA again at 250 yards. For 308/7.62 the POA/POI will be identical at 40 yards and 600 yards. I hope this helps. Know the 2 ranges for POI/POA speeds up your zero and helps you know your holds. That simply means that after the first POA/POI but before the final POA/POI you will hold just a little low. After the last or second POA/POI you will need to hold high.

I actually just zeroed my rifle recently. Just a reminder, no zero is better than the other. They all have different purposes. The zero distance is simply where your line of sight and bullet intersect. Decide if you want something to be more of a put your dot at center mass and shoot (36yd zero) or something where you can be more accurate and know your holds (100yd). You could theoretical zero your rifle for almost any range within reason and you just gotta know how the line of sight and bullet trajectory interact.
@frogmantactical
@frogmantactical 5 ай бұрын
I agree. I don’t worry about a few inches. If you get shot and the round goes 3” low, it’s still going to jack them up big time. People overthink it. As you said, each caliber has the “within reason” based on the caliber and ballistics. 🙏

I've used a ahooting sled. Shoot a 3 round group. Then aim the optic at your original target. While holding the gun atill at the target on the sled, move the dot or crosshairs to where the group is. The gun would now be point of aim/point of impact. Shoot another group to confirm and more groups to refine of desired.

Zeroing a 20” barrel at 36 yards of 5.56 with a 1/8 twist vs 16”? Does it matter with additional barrel length? Using 55 grain and only 77 grain for longer shots?

@@Doodlefisher well with the longer 20” barrel the velocity will be higher than the 16” counterpart with the same exact ammo. Every inch will yield about 50fps, so there will be some difference between the two. It’s probably not much, and won’t be as noticeable at close range. It does make a difference and I notice a difference between my 18” Wilson Combat 6mm ARC and my Ballistic Advantage 20” 6ARC with the same ammo at the same distance. The further I shoot, the more noticeable it becomes. 🍻

As long as it’s not touching the barrel it’s fine. It has no bearing on the harmonics of the barrel itself. The further out and wider the base, the better as far as stability. But that’s not as tactically based. More of an extreme distance shooter setup.
