Good tip on pitching the toad like a jig. I will try that next time I'm out on the water. Fall pattern hasn't really started here in Louisiana yet still have daytime highs in the low 90's and nighttime lows in the low 70's . I sure would like to see an in depth video on pitching jigs when you get time. I like your videos better than the others because they are how-to orientated with out all the hype.

Frogs vs. toads: With the frogs a fisherman has to wait for the tension in the rod to set the hook. Walking the dog ir twitching both work with frogs. Toads create a surface of water motion to draw strikes. bpulling the toads across moss or lilly pads has an advantage to drop into holes thru the moss to draw strikes. Throw the toad like a jig with flipping and pitching too! Put me N2Win with BassResource.com and Mr. May! Thanks for the chance BassResource.com with Another fantastic video!!!

I absolutely love frog and toad fishing. It is probably my favorite way to bass fish. I agree that toad fishing is more versatile than hollow body frog fishing. I like to let the Zoom Horny Toad to flutter and jig it as well. The rage toad is my favorite...the feet on it can make commotion in all types of cover and even the thickest grass mats. Thanks for the tips on waiting and how to set the hook. I will try to keep my cool and use these ideas when I am frog fishing, but it can be hard sometimes. My adrenaline gets pumping when they attack these baits. Thanks for the video, Bass Resource is quickly becoming my favorite bass fishing videos.

Gonna have to try adding slack to the line before hookset. Great video!!
@bassresource
@bassresource 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you want to wait until you feel the weight of the fish. Once you do, your hookset should be a very quick "whip" as described in teh video. You're BRIEFLY giving a LITTLE slack in one swift movement as part of the hookset, which helps pile-drive the hooks deep.

I love fishing frogs and toads on or near the surface on our bass rivers in the Mountain West. The Snake, Salmon, Rogue and John Day rivers all see toads flourishing midsummer before the glacial water gets above 65 degrees, and the smallies are super aggressive in taking big baits on the surface. There's nothing better than watching a 4 pound smallies smash a frog on the surface

The fish in the waters I fish just don't like things constantly moving. I've tried toads and buzzbaits but I don't get the bites that I get with a frog or pop-R or any other topwater bait I can just pause and let sit. I pop it around the grass but will walk the dog in the open water, which makes the frog a pretty versatile bait.

yes I have been using the toads as a jig for years. thats how I started using it. but I use it as both at the same time.use it as a top water bait till I see a place I can let it sink then twitch it, great where there are pads. use it as a top water and stop it before you get to pad, let it sink, they hit it there or when you go over the pad and let it sink. they are very aggressive I have noticed when I change retrieves, but great combination

on the blow up I reel down and pick up the slack until I feel the weight of the fish then I swing for the fences because I found when I had slack in the line and I cracked the whip it was blowing their mouths open and not getting hook penetration it just seemed to be blowing their lips open but since I started reeling up the slack until the fish is felt I have had very good hook up ratio, to each his own tho watever works for each individual is wat they shuld do.

I had the exact same thing happen, throwing slack into the line had me losing fish.

Proper way to fish frogs (toads) in the south is exactly what you described. Reel up the slack, set the hook. I never set the hook on slack line, that causes lost fish.

Yes, you want to wait until you feel the weight of the fish. Once you do, your hookset should be a very quick "whip" as described in the video. You're BRIEFLY giving a LITTLE slack in one swift movement as part of the hookset, which helps pile-drive the hooks deep. If you give too much slack, then you're doing it wrong.

Done this with the toad in 2013 . Here in the uk we dont have bass but i needed for my jig head and soft plastic to fall slower through the water and I didnt have any lighter jigheads . Stuck on a toad . Problem solved . My canal PB pike of 31.7lb was caught 10 minutes later . Surely others have done this with the toad . Good informative video anyway . Like from me .

Nobody claimed she invented it. But she did discover it on her own. Thanks for watching.

@@bassresource Hopefully you didnt take what i said the wrong way . I meant "surely others have done this with the toad" as in talking to the comments section . Im from the UK and a couple of my comments have come across the wrong way to the U.S.A guys . Didnt mean it as a personal attack on your wife and hope it didnt come across that way . Anyone that thinks outside the box is on the ball in my book . Great angling there !!! Thats a like and a thumbs up from me .
