this laptop is relatively tame in comparison to some of microsoft's other laptops. they used alcantera decks so the only way to take them apart was to use a heat gun, destroying the keyboard, and slicing through the cloth. there was literally no way to take it apart without destroying it.

im in a love/hate relationship with Surfaces. also for those stupid near industrial grade adhesives i suggest a can of 99% IPA, like in an aerosol can with a little tube insert, spritz a little of that in the seams and it'll come right off.

I think that is not a nVme enclosure ? Since the WD blue is wd500 nVme (keyed b+m) , the surface default SSD is nVme is (m key ) Enclosure is not nVme , it's m.2 sata

I own one of these nice big guys, the thing that few people know about this laptop is that the position of the panel controls 3 different (internal) power plans: the classic "laptop" one is the most conservative as it enables a temperature sensor under the keyboard which prevents it from getting too hot for your hands. As soon as you unhook the screen it switches to the mode with higher performance for the "stage mode" and when it is completely flat in tablet mode a third power plan enters which is a cross between the first and the second. The blue screen could be caused either by a driver problem in the switch between power plans or by a CPU temperature problem. I might advise you to use a thermal pad on the CPU or change the paste with a higher quality one.

this isn't the only laptop that can do this, but it's the most popular. a bunch of acer laptops around the windows 8 era did this. you'll know because it has the trackpad above the keyboard in the most inconvenient place possible.

Gotta turn on palm rejection to draw properly on a normal touchscreen. This happens even on expensive thinkpads/ideapads. And high end drawing tablets(which is why they always have switches to turn off the touch portion) :D

Repairability has went up significantly for laptops that rolled out in recent 2-3 years Most of them don't let you upgrade the RAM though sadly :(

Next time you revive one of the surface laptops / tablets use a specific created boot device and not a generic ISO. You'd get all the drivers out of the box and no blue screens.

The advantage to torx screws is security, and relyability. Security because not everyone has a set (for better or worse). And reliability because the extra teeth make it where it can where it's less slip prone, so you have a lower chance of stripping. Thats also why phillips bits were invented. Even if it's more inconvenient, it's technically the better option.

I use the same nvme enclosure for my very legal backup roms. It's been working fine for me but it could also have completely different guts. The same enclosure is also used for scams very often. My boss got a "16tb" one for $20 in that enclosure, luckily he got it returned when I told him.

I tought the battery was cooked, since i bought it second hand. But one day i have an idea to change the power plan (actually, made one since on default it just have default one) and it automagically solved the issues. Mbuh og dancok tenan windows 11.

I have the laptop studio 2. I love this stupid thing. I got it as a desktop replacement for my dorm room so I didn't have to take up space with a desktop, and also wanted to be able to use it for notes in class. I like it. Hopefully I don't have to repair it at any point...

I would try the image MS provides and then do updates and/or upgrade firmware and see if that fixes anything. If not, it could have a damaged NVMe port or a board issue.
