If this is Canon's answer to the lack of 3rd party lenses, then it's not a great answer. They had plenty of options like this for the EF mount and people still looked to 3rd parties for affordable high quality glass because it was better than what Canon offered. I really hope they don't limit 3rd parties to APS-C.

The RF licensing restriction was the main reason and final straw that pushed me over to Sony after 15yrs of shooting Canon. I don't want cheap alternative lenses, I want the option to explore the design and performance concepts from other lens manufacturers. I don't want to wait around for years until Canon releases a lens focal length or feature that fits THIER release roadmap.
@noctwiceКүн бұрын
I haven't switched yet but I totally agree. I shoot Zeiss adapted to EF which then has to be adapted again to RF. I also like the newer Sigma options on mirrorless. There is still a lot of things about Canon I like which why I have stuck by them but E mount is now much closer to what the EF mount used to be. A widely used mount with options for every type of user. You could also say the same about the available bodies. Now if only Sony would improve their menus. When another Zeiss lens finally breaks I will likely get ready to move over.

I like what Canon’s doing with these more affordable 2.8s. People are still complaining saying they’re expensive, but they’re the same price as sigma art lenses and I’m sure they wouldn’t complain about the price of those if they were ported to rf. I just wish they had some quality primes around the $900-1100 price range. The 1.4’s are great but at $1500 a pop it’s still hard to not look at the sigma’s sitting at like $900 and not want those. Regardless, good on Canon!

I don’t understand why people complain at Canon for expensive lenses, but Sony and Nikon make the same type of lenses for the same prices. I don’t hear complaints towards them! (Except for the people that think the photography gear shouldn’t cost more than $500 maximum)

Canon is going to delay anymore third-party lenses as long as they can get away with it. They don't want prices to drop on their RF lenses. The STM has always been there and has always been an option, but a Tamron or Sigma alternative would be cheaper and would probably render their STM line irrelevant.
@dannyd14855 сағат бұрын
Canon can't compete at lower end with tamron or sigma glass most of the time and not to mention sigma higher end isn't that much more expensive than canon STM, viltrox is also pumping out fantastic lenses for the price. Haven't recommended canon since they blocked off third party to fellow photographers or families, stopped using canon cinema cameras too when they switched to the new mount and now I'm sporting Sony fx6 and fx3 instead 😆

I get a laugh every time somebody says Canon has a new "affordable" lens out but Sigma has the same focal length and f-stop for $200 to $400 less! LOL! C'mon Canon! Let's get on the 3rd party wagon and drop the charade about "budget zooms" being produced as affordable. If you're comparing these new lenses to the pro L-series lenses that go for $3000 then I guess you can look at $1400 to $1800 as a budget offering, but not in my opinion. The Trump photo has poor lighting. They did it just to match his over-the-top vanity. If it used the same tonal and contrast mappings as all the other presidential photos it might blend it. Trump no doubt wanted it to stand out. WAY out.

Lenses are just too expensive in general it seems. Though, the Canon non L primes are REALLY affordable! The 35mm 1.8 RF lens is only $499 in Canadia! Yes, that's in Canadia dollars! And that lens is optically fantastic and has IS and macro to boot. Same with the 85 2.0! It's about $700 I think and has macro and IS as well. REALL great prices. The new 16-28 though is going to be at least $1500 in Canadia dollars I think which to me is about what I'd expect an L lens to be. I think that's what I paid new for the 16-35 L EF lens back in the day. Back then though I could get a Hershey's for a nickel... a NICKEL!

Fast forward 100 years to a high school student looking at past presidents and it immediately tells a story that gets you intrigued about who he was. Everyone wants top end gear at bottom end money. 500 600 dollars isn't affordable really either to alot of ppl sigmas making great lenses in that prices range and above for equivalent focal ranges. Its alot more affordable then canons L glass at 2000 to 4000 dollars. I have 1 l lens I'll say it's worth the money but I can't afford to be buying 2000 plus lenses all the time . 800 to 1100 is a good price point to save up and spend on a nice lens.
