@Yupthereitism3 ай бұрын
@@TisthammerPhotography I agree. I think the r1 should have the r5 ii sensor for sure. Tbh though the stacked sensor isn’t all that useful unless you’re doing sports or fast nature, if you don’t use the speed then you are taking a hit to your image quality for no reason. Stacked sensors perform more poor than their non stacked counterparts in regard to dynamic range
@TisthammerPhotography3 ай бұрын
@@Yupthereitism Stacked sensors have a tradeoff to be sure, but they're great for silent shutters due to their increased resistance to banding and faster autofocus in addition to their usefulness for fast action. There's a reason why all the flagships of the big three (Canon, Sony, Nikon) use stacked sensors. That said, you're right about the tradeoff regarding dynamic range. Sometimes even in my professional work I'll use a camera with a non-stacked sensor just because it's the best one for the job.

But here is the thing the R3 was sharper in tests when compared to Sony and Nikon. I believe in a few years we will see a new R1 that will make leaps an d bounds. Canon has always been this way they play it safe till they get the technology right instead of releasing a camera that may have issues

I just bought an R5 from B&H when it was on sale for $500 off and used the Payboo card to save an additional $250 in sales tax (almost 9% for me), so I saved closed to $750 on it. I knew in the back of my mind that the R5II was coming out, and I might regret buying the R5, but after watching this, I'm fine with my purchase. I shoot nature and landscapes, and almost never shoot video, and rarely ever shoot sports or anything that even moves. The R5 II is a great camera, but after seeing this, and spending $1500 less, my R5 is still the right camera for me. That said, Canon has really upped it's game with the R5II

Hi Jared, I just wanna add a "small" thing: the R5ii 4k60p oversampled is only available in RAW and no other format. So basically it's useless. The Canon R1 has fallen victim to the age-old and widely held bias that the most important spec by which a new camera is judged is MEGAPIXELS. If the R1 had released with all the same specs but with at least a 45MP sensor, there would be no doubt that all the "experts" would hail this as the new Canon flagship. Instead of questioning Canon's use of the term flagship, they would be talking about the fast sensor read speed, what is possibly the world's best AF, and the new upscaling and noise reduction capabilities. And the sad part is, Canon's product managers should have known this would happen.

I’d rather spend a lot less on an R5 to be honest. The stacked sensor is nice on the mark II but everything else seems like an iteration rather than some groundbreaking new improvement.
@TigaWould3 ай бұрын
Exactly! And with the R5 mark I. You can use the screen as a touchscreen and move the focus point quickly (Just not that quickly for sports) so for me, it’s not an improvement. When I shot sports, it was the X-Games and U. S. Burton open winter events. You’re typically only shooting 1 person at a time anyway. And for basketball, the R5 still does a great job this one just does better. Edit: oh and for the stacked sensor that doesn’t matter if you’re shooting mechanically. The R5 mark ii basically beats the Sony A1 and Nikon Z9. The only thing those 2 cameras can pretty much do is match what canon did. Anything more is way too excessive.

I'm impressed with the R5 MkII enough to purchase one (at some point). I'm a pro and have done splendidly with the R6 MkI and MkII. They have the right features (especially the MkII) giving me more budget headroom for quality RF glass. I'm thinking of selling my MkI in the fall (can anyone say "Black Friday!"?), the proceeds of which will go toward the R5MkII (or Hasselblad X2D ....longshot). Admittedly, I was tempted to take advantage of the deals offered on the Mk1. I'm glad I held off. Kudos to Canon for adding potentially useful features to their camera bodies instead of fighting the megapixel war. BTW, where's all the new glass that was supposed to accompany the launch of the two new cameras????

In the olden days, flagships were always fast, low-res bodies. Look at the Nikon D4. The D800 was the slower high-res counterpart to that. I guess Canon is continuing that trend. Even if 40fps RAW isn’t that much, it still beats the 45-50MP bodies. For Nikon, I think they switched to a high-res flagship because the market would otherwise be too small.

No its just that the specs are not interesting for most people. If they could do computational dynamic range and noise reduction like a smart phone THAT would be a cool feature, or other such things that most people would have benefit of. Faster shooting and a bit better auto focus is not really big news for most people as that part is already good enough. Also over 100 MP images are not really needed for most people. Let’s be honest when you decide to play in the camera world and want the latest and greatest that means you agree to sale out for 1/4 of the original price it is what it is. You can opt out at any time. Me I’m getting the new R1 and just put it as a write off.

Don't forget to sell your R if you don't use it :) Still a great camera for many uses that could make someone happy :D

Is it just me or is the R7 really impressive to shoot at 30fps electronic raw at 32.5 mp for 1200 usd?
@stepheneckert40063 ай бұрын
Apples to oranges. R7 is Not stacked with a very slow readout so shooting anything slightly fast will resort in serious rolling shutter. Most users stick to the 15fps mechanical because of this

Any chance you could do a wifi transfer speed test? I'm keen to see how fast it is and if a wireless RAW workflow will finally be an option for studio shooters.
