Interesting description of wood boiler technology. In the US most heating systems are combined HVAC (heating ventilation air conditioner). Usually air is ducted by fan to rooms via air ducts, and returned to the central HVAC unit to be conditioned. Hot water systems are also available in the US, but not in wide use compared to air handling systems. Central AC is a very common home feature here, probably explaining the popularity of air handling VS hot water for heat. Wood pellet stoves can be purchased to be placed in rooms for added heat, these are used to heat and circulate air. These pellet stoves are vented through an exterior wall. Normally these pellet stoves are considered auxiliary and would not replace the central heating system.

Hi! Thank you for the comment! I didn't know about these details. I imagine that these air conditioning systems are electircal-powered, right? In this case, how do you produce heat? I mean, do these systems have resistances? Or do you heat up water to produce steam, then you send steam wherefer you need?

@@profilo_is_back Yes, central AC unit has an electric powered central compressor with cooling coils installed in the ducted supply airstream. Air heating often uses electrical resistance coils in warmer areas. Circulation air is usually heated by nat gas, propane or oil heat exchangers in areas with colder winters. Steam and hot water systems can easily be found as well, but less popular in recent decades. Air handling ducted systems are far more common in low rise construction.

USA here. WOW!!!! GREAT JOB! Keep up the GREAT WORK ON THE VIDEOS! This is very informative! I've been looking for something like this for my shop. How large of a storage area are you using for the wood chips? Based on that size how often do you need to fill it? I understand there will be a different consumption rate depending on the weather and temperature, but on average how much raw material does it using .... in a 24 hr cycle? You have me hooked on your videos. I have watched a few so far and look forward to watching the rest of them. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

hi! Thank you very much for the comment, really glad that you like my videos! Well, you're right, it really depends on too much factors. In these days, here in Italy its quite hot, talking about 5°C/10°C. My house is not thermally isolated and we are using about 1.5/2 big bags every week. 1big bag of wood chip (not good quality material) is about 400/600kg. Let's assume 1000kg/week, it's almost 150kg/day. These,as you may imagine, are very rough calculation but can give you an idea. Our storage area (there is a video on the channel) is about 2.5m x 2.5m x 2m. We fill it once a week in this period. Hope this was helpful for you. Filippo - Thank you for the information! I did look them up for sales in the USA. I've downloaded some Borchers and need to go through them to see if it will work for me. Extra scrap wood, for me, is NOT an issue for me and this system might work perfectly! As I look into it more I may ask you for more information. Again, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ON THE VIDEOS! Hi! Thank you for the comment and for the subscription! The Froling boiler is about 13k €, easily going to 18k with additional equipment like the wood chip extractor, 1.5t technical water puffer, pumps and installation. Here in Italy we have some incentives we can rely upon if you are upgrading your old system to something new like this, however you have to spend a lot of money for projects and bureaucracy. When the bunker is full, do the arms hide (most part ) and scoop a small amount into the feeder? Or too much? How regular is the feeding of wood chips?

Hi! Thank you for the comment. Exactly, they do hide, they are all winded around the main rotor. They continuously 'eat' material from the above column of wood chip. The main screw extracting the material is always full of wood chip, so that the feeding is always as much constant as possibile. If the material feeding is irregular (talking about both quantity or different materials) the boiler controller will understand this because of variations in the combustion properties. If its feeding and temperature isn't rising (or the boiler is cooling), than more material has to be fed. Or, on the other hand, if you keep feeding the same quantity and you see the temperature of the fumes rise up too much, it means a more powerful material is coming inside the combustion chamber. The control system can reduce the feeding rate. Hope this was helpful for you. Bye!

Ciao, grazie per le spiegazioni, per caso sai dire che livello di umidita ha il cippato che bruci? per quanto riguarda le dimensioni del cippato invece hai avuto problemi ? al minuto 5.25, si vede un cippato molto grande, riesce anche a trasportare e bruciare quel tipo di cippato ?

Ciao! Scusa per il ritardo nella risposta..il materiale che usiamo è il più secco possibile 5%-15% di contenuto di umidità. Potresti bruciare anche materiale più umido, > 20%, ovvio che così facendo l'efficienza della caldaia diminuisce di molto. Ha poco senso. No, per le dimensioni mai avuto problemi. La coclea è molto grossa e resistente, quindi accetta materiale fine ma anche grosso. L'unico problema si ha con pezzi lunghi, perché si incastrano nello stoker: qui alzano lo sportellino dello stoker, facendo scattare l'interruttore di sicurezza che blocca il sistema, quindi la caldaia si spegne. Inoltre pezzi lunghi possono bloccare la caduta del cippato dalla coclea superiore allo stoker sotto, interrompendo il funzionamento della caldaia. Questo è l'unico caso in cui i pezzi lunghi danno problemi. Ma succede molto raramente. Anche perché spesso noi vagliamo il cippato per togliere, appunto, pezzi lunghi e troppo grossi che potrebbero dare problemi.

Does the moisture % content effect the combustion. Does it freeze in your area and is that a problem for the chips? Thanks.

Hi! Thank you for the comment! For sure the moisture content affects the combustion. More water inside the product means spending a % of thermal energy to let it evaporate (= less energy to heat the technical water). For sure, more the product is dryed, higher is the combustion efficiency. About freezing. No, in my area the material inside the storage room doesn't freeze. But yes, I think it MAY be a problem. A block of frozen material is hard to brake, however I say MAY because the wood chip extractor has long bars with 'hooks' on the end thip. They help in scraping the material from the storage: even if it is hard, the wood chip is still extracted. But if it is a very hard block of frozen material, maybe it won't be that easy to brake it. This is a very curios aspect I've never thought about. Hope this reply was ok for you! Bye!

HI! Thank you for the comment! Well, bit yes. When the motor starts the noise is strong, you hear it. Moreover it makes a bit of noise if the material remains stacked betweend the screw and the steel plate itself. But this doesn't happen that much frequently. I'won't sleep in a room over it, let's say. But from the outside you don't hear that much, als because it is not constantly running. Hope these considerations can help you in your work!
