Pouring latte art hearts is one of the most important first skills you need to learn in order to progress to more advanced latte art. I love pouring these latte art designs for my friends and showing off my coffee skills. In this video I'll explain the core techniques you need to pour a heart, and then how to take it to the next level with ripple hearts.

Watched so many tutorials since we got a coffee machine. None talked about the height of the pouring and how it would affects the design. Repeated failures have been demotivating. Thanks for the extremely detailed explanation, gonna try it tomorrow.

What cup size are you using here? I have the flat white (150ml) cup and feel with the double espresso I don’t have much space to work with
@homecafecharlie
@homecafecharlie 3 жыл бұрын
My flat white cups are also 150ml. Flat whites should be strong so with a 36-40g shot you have about 110g to work with. Use a small jug to not waste milk 😉

Great video and I love the outtakes you do. Thanks for making these. My art is coming out as one big blob. Is that because I’m getting too much air into the milk?
@homecafecharlie
@homecafecharlie 3 жыл бұрын
It could be that - try introducing far less air. You might get to a point where it's too whispy and doesn't hold a form, but over time you'll learn how much steam you need on your machine and find the middle ground. Keep practicing!
@joconnell
@joconnell 3 жыл бұрын
At 4.04 where you're practicing a wiggle with dish soap, would you consider this distance from the surface (looks about 3 - 4 cm) to be where you'd be when you're designing? My current issue is that I'm not getting the initial spread from the point where the milk hits the surface and I get blobby designs. From your other video it sounds like I'm still not fully incorporating the air so my milk is uneven but perhaps I'm also too close to the surface and the milk is just laying right on top! This camera angle is very useful in terms of diagnosing a pour's height!
@homecafecharlie

One thing that you can try is lowering the pitcher slowly while pouring so you can see when the beige comes out, and then when the white comes out. That should show you where the right point is to get a good colour contrast. Also try putting in a lot less air than you think you need.
@joconnell
@joconnell 3 жыл бұрын
@@homecafecharlie Awesome, thank you! Definitely good point on the air, I'm currently on the french press method and i've definitely gitten far better results with less air - cheers!

Hi Charlie, how hot should a latte or cappuccino be? I have noticed the inconsistency of the drink temperature in many of the coffee shops I have been to. Should the drink be boiling hot or just warm?
@homecafecharlie
@homecafecharlie 2 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't be piping hot. Aim for 65°C - higher than that and you'll start to scold the milk.
@Kaiser68

Pull the camera further away, it's hard to see sometimes. I know you want that really clean look but you always pull your cup up so we can't really see it well. Otherwise, a really useful video.

Good tutuorial. Presentation is a little frenetic - almost as if you're limited for time and rushing to squeeze it all in - but good tips, nonetheless. If you're interested in additional feedback, you can definitely lose the "blooper" section at the end. The world has moved on from bloopers, I think. Thanks very much for the video. Very useful.

Hi Charlie, im a beginner into Lattte art, one issue I found out is, when I pour milk into the cup, I can see a voltex (bottom to top, like my pouring is hitting the back of the cup wall and boucing back) happening in the back of the cup, then it flushes my design away, does that mean I pour too front or the flow is too much?
@homecafecharlie
@homecafecharlie Жыл бұрын
It could be that you're not putting into the middle of the cup. If you are, your coffee might be too thin. Dark roast coffees work better for latte art, and light roasts might not be able to hold the milk well.
