I feel like the biker community in Germany is very enjoyable. You have a lot of brotherhood and when you are driving you are united in your hobby with completely random people who are so kind and always willing to help you. I've never driven in the USA but I would love to one day just for the experience of the nature and culture.

This story reminds me to a coleague from the community service _[Zivildienst]_ who went from germany to spain on a dutch bicycle with a bicycle trailer and his two dogs (a leonberger dog and a german mastif) And as he was biking up the Pyrenees he saw the custom official waiting on top of the mountain with crossend under arms greeting him with the legendary question: "Let me guess: Dutchman or german?!" He replied: "I'm german" Custom official: "I know! There are only two kind of peoples stupid enough to bike up the Pyrenees with two dogs and a bicycle trailer: Dutchman and germans!" xD

One thing about the "not getting a driver's license as soon as possible" bit: That really only applies to urban areas with decent public transportation. I grew up in a more rural area where public transportation was basically one bus to the city each morning and evening. You can be certain we got our driver's license ASAP.

there is one biker rallye in germany that is ab-so-lu-te-ly mandatory: the elfantentreffen. late january / early february - southern bavaria - 4000 bikers - 1000 campfires. last time i was there we had to abandon the bikes 5km away because we couldn't get up an icy hill and when we got there we had to dig ourselves 1 metre into the snow before we could set up our tents.

Don't ride a Harley. That is a bike for long straight roads on a very low speed limit. Take an Adventure bike (ktm, bmw, Ducati, triumph). Go for the Alps on small roads across the mountains with up to 30% steepness on gravel. That's a real fun. Look for Passo stelvio Videos for example. It is so exciting to get up there. On the other hand I also use my R1200gs (the market leader in germany) for a ride to the backery to get some Brötchen. 😄🤗 And I enjoy it!
You are more german than i am i belive and im about to be 30 years old , haha! It is cool to see how other people outside of Germany experience living in germany, becasue usually my concern is that they think it is not that great, but that positive outlook you show really brightens up my mood!

Hey Eric! One of the biggest difference between bikes in the USA and bikes in Germany is the TÜV. A former colleague of me made a trip to America with his own Harley some years ago. He met some American bikers and they took a ride together. They all drove custom build Harleys and asked him why he don't customise his own Harley. He said because of the German TÜV. Its not allowed to rebuild your bike like you want. Only answer: "what the fuck is TÜV". So think about that if you want to buy a new motorcycle 😉

It was built in the 50th. At 1956 this biker festival took place for the first time and it was only for owners of this green elefant. As far as I know it is the oldest biker festival in Germany. And there are coming also bikers from Africa and Austrailia. So if you don't mind the frotiness it is a must :-)

There are many cycling events! In my area there are many communities with cycling clubs who host cycling events from spring to fall, called RTF (Rad-Touren-Fahrt) which are happening on Sundays. There is a fixed event calendar so you know when the events are going to take place. You pay 5-10€ and can ride the routes which will be signposted. You can chose from routes from 40km, 70km, 110, 150 and sometimes 210km. The Clubs will organize supply stations by the road so you can pick up some snacks and drinks during the event.

In Germany, well, you're a minority. But, this will give you much more freedom and acceptance. In Germany, you're still an outlaw, but not in a bad sense. You're still a guy who rides a bike and that's still unusual to many. But - and that's were the acceptance kicks in - it's like in Metal (were I'm a part in, too). In the end, you're just a guy who rides a bike and nobody thinks bad things on first sight.

Well I don´t drive motorcycles but I know many who has a Harley but most of them have also an Enduro as well..they explained it that way that an Enduro is way more fun to ride because of the actual roadsituation in Europe..they told me a Harley is made to drive straight ahead..but in Europe the roads are simply way more curvy than in the USA..So it is way more fun to ride the Enduro on that roads..while riding with the Harley is more a sort of an "image thing" and sort of "status thing" to have because a "Harley is simply a Harley" simply a ledendary thing to have...But as I said I don´t ride Motorcycles that ´s just what I´ve got told from those who have those vehicles. And when those into speed instead of "cruising" then a powerful streetracer of any kind is the thing anyway instead of a Harley.
@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you like to ride, thats for sure. There are some impressive things that can be done on a Harley when you can ride well enough. The riding straight thing is BS. I used to take my turns tight enough to scrape, a bit easier to do on the pipes side. In the us many sport bike riders are reckless and try to look cool in their own ways. Most motorcycle accidents are from sport bike riders because they ride carelessly.
@michaelgrabner89774 жыл бұрын
@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany I get it ..but regarding to turns it depends a bit on the actual angles of the curves...and what I ment is the actual feeling while riding those curves. And don´t get me wrong I had no intend to smear a Harley...and those from where I got those infos are no reckless riders they are in my age with decades of experience riding bikes and I´m almost 50...just to make that clear. All what I just tried to say is that those take their Harleys just for a short run but when they make a long tour through several countries with all different types of roadprofiles like for instance through the Alps where you have to corner sharply permanently as like as very often on roads along the seaside in Croatia and Dalmacia (former Yugoslavia) or Italy which are all tremendous bike tours by the way they take the Enduro because it is way more fun to ride those under those road conditions.

The motorcycle is part of the Wild West, just without a horse. The wide, open landscape and pleasant temperatures are also part of the motorcycle. Europeans have the same picture in their heads. However, they disappeared from the road in autumn and only reappear at pleasant temperatures. The wild west ends quickly in an air-conditioned car. But the landscape of the Midwest to drive is also missing. Western Europe is highly urbanized as if there were only the west and east coasts of the United States. The piece in between with the Wild West is missing. That's why a bicycle makes more sense and is also more European. Just like the bicycle couriers in the big cities in the USA.

The most what you usually hear in Germany about bikers tend to be in connection with the Hell's Angels, which is a biker gang known for their gang criminality. Harleys are more build for the American streets - Get on the road and drive hundreds of miles straight forward and feel the nature. In Europe with the serpentine like curves Harleys often makes problems (you have to slow down to get the curve) and the typical small but overpowered road bikes, Street-Enduros (like the BMW GS line) are more common. Also European biking is more a recreation thing driving for fun, fast through the curves. European bikers often hate it to drive an the highways and prefer the curvy county roads with hard braking in front of a curve and speeden up at the end. It's more sports driving in often cases. And we have bikers events: If you want to see a lot of bikers come to a "Gedenkfahrt" (Bikers meet somewhere and protected by Police they drive to a church having a bikers-Mass to remind the killed (by accidents) bikers of the year and receive a blessing from the priest for save ride next year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZjRiKyJrNuUmNk

Not being national or proud here, but just true to all I heard from every single american KZbinr. SoA is typical american? For me it shows a hardly paternalistic society which divides men and women into two different classes where women are strictly subordinated to men and where everything follows some simplesuperficial rules from action and reaction. For me it was really hard to what because its some kind of not humanistic and a bit stupid and one-dimensional. I know it's just a movie, but it's a really sad picture of a western society.
