Yes of course - but ... .But Napoleons Army marched through Weimar and Leipzig (twice), visited Goethe in Weimar, as a matter of fact there had been 'Einquartierungen' in Weimars families, when Napoleon was on his way to the east. And deutsch was full of adopted french phrases, because of Louis 14. But that's how German nature is to some extend - a little bit later one in the future the German language will exclude most of the english phrases as well again, as it did with most of the french ones - and put in chinese phrases instead, no problem with that. Foreign cultures and troops most of the time don't stay foreever - but enjoy your Bier now! Today is today - and not yet tomorrow.

I think the big Americanization ended already like ten years ago. People started realizing that America is not as great as it is portrayed in Hollywood movies. Also when George W. Bush was elected president nobody took him serious as a politician in Germany (I guess now we wish he would be back). And when he stared the Iraq war with the ridiculous claim that they have weapons of mass destruction, it was over for me and my family. My parents used to have a USA flag in the kitchen. When we watched the war footage on TV we put the flag down, rolled it up and put it in a cupboard, where it is ever since... In my mind the USA went from a mystical place of freedom and opportunity to a country with 3rd world country with some wealthy upper class and a serious lack of education, mixed with heavy ignorance and violence. I might be kind of emotional about this topic, because I really wanted to work in the US for some years and spend part of my life there. But I learned that the US is not a great place, and my trip to the US last year confirmed my view of the US and made it even worse. Sure I met great people and the center of Chicago is really impressive, something you wont find in Germany. But on the other hand, what you wont find in Germany is something like the south of Chicago, where people life in poverty and as a white guy you have to fear for your life if you are on the streets in the evening... I still like the good parts of the USA, but the negative aspects are too much right now, sorry

I wouldn't call it americanizing. We just adopted a few convenient american things. Just like any other neat idea from all over the world.
