Focus on your marketing strategy. Start pushing grab and go garlands. Grad season is coming. Start approaching the local school boards for setups for prom and the grad ceremonies. Daycares too. Put together a hanging card/ flyer and put them on mailboxes… not inside. Also start approaching ice cream shops and small businesses with seasonal openings . When you see shifts in the market you have to pivot. Lastly tax prep companies are trying to attract business and what better way than a balloon arch or columns. At the end of the day it’s really all sales.

Another big thing is social media, a lot of people are starting to just diy their decorations. The last 3 clients I originally booked ended up just decorating themselves. I’ve taken a big step back from doing this professionally at this point unfortunately.

Lonielle- when I need some serious direction, I will fast, in addition to praying and being in the Word. That might be 3 days, 7 days or 21 days- ask the Holy Spirit. Jeremiah 33:3. God’s blessings be upon you as you seek His direction. 2024 is the year of the open door.

There are times business booms and then times where it’s slow. It WILL pick up . Also you are correct there are times where we have to be still and take it all in. @@lottabailey9904Fasting is biblical. It is time you set aside to seek God. No food, if your body can handle just drinking water during your set time of fasting, that is best. I have to have some crangrape juice as well or I will have headaches or shakiness. When you normally have a meal, replace that with prayer and reading the Word of God. For me, the 3rd day is when I start feeling the fog lift and your senses become sharp and you can discern what the Lord is saying. He may speak to you in dreams or you “hear” Him in your Spirit, as just a couple of examples of how He speaks. It is denying our flesh bc sometimes our emotions override what God would have us do- His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, as scripture says. Some people can’t fast bc of serious health problems so they can fast maybe no media or TV- whatever is important to that person, put God first in other words. Hope that helps you😇.

I have been decorating for 12 years and and those "dead" seasons are brutal! I would recommend looking for venues in your area that don't offer decor (vfw's, community clubs, etc.) and asking if you can drop off brochures.

Oh, Lonielle, I am sorry to know you are struggling. I admire you so much and learn so much from you. I will be praying you can remain encouraged. Some ideas for the short term are to contact all of the high schools near you to promote your company for Prom decor and churches for Easter displays - all of the churches in my area do displays on Easter for people to take family pictures in front of them while attending church on Easter. Hospitals always seem to do big galas and fundraisers, maybe market to them if you haven’t done so already. Another idea may be to whip up a few columns and drop them off at some key businesses with your menu. Even though you’d be using some supplies it may be worth it if it would lead to some bookings. Finally, I feel like you are a natural teacher. Some other artists I follow partner with some of these balloon stores in large cities and hold classes. They charge $250-$350 per student. I’m sure you’ve seen them. That is BIG money. Honestly, if they can do it, so can you! You are very talented. Please know I care!

It’s the same with the custom cake business. It’s usually slow in the beginning of the year, but I start booking at this time for events in April and beyond. So far I have 3 cakes for march. Last year started out with a bang and ended with a sonic boom. This year looks a bit sad so far. I am going to take this time to reevaluate, reorganize, restructure and manifest what I want for the future of my business. Hang in there, I know you’re worried, because you are talented and smart. I had an idea for you and I’m not sure if it’s something you’re interested in but here it goes! Since everyone is going the DIY route and you’re such a great teacher… why not create DIY packages with the balloons we would need to create the balloon backdrops from your YT videos. Some instructional cards and videos. I know it’s not the same as making the big backdrops but it could be some passive income for slower seasons. I wouldn’t mind paying extra if I know exactly what I can make with what I’m getting. Anyway, praying the Lord opens a way for you!

This I understand. My industry is different (graphic/brand design & consulting) but I deal with this a lot. Perhaps think about offering event consulting services, and go all in on digital products and courses. Offer the grab and go options for those who don’t have time to do full setups. All these I use to pivot throughout the year. I also recommend perhaps building your own storage SheShed. It can be on your property and can include your KZbin studio. Hope this helps! You have been a huge help and inspiration for times I’ve had to offer event decor services to my clients. I wasn’t totally interested in going full time but your courses and KZbin has been a big help.

Don't give up!! There's money to be made oit there, you just have to rethink about how to get it. Depending on your city, try biding on contracts for decorating the city events or their fund raisers. Maybe during the slow periods, offer package deals to get you through until things pick up. Some money beats no money! I pray that you have much success for the remainder of the year and in the future. I love your tutorials! They have provided me with inspiration and ideals for the small events I've done. the main reason why it has become super slow is 1. diy from KZbin, instagram, media has crushed the business, a work that probably you will charge $2000 3 years ago now they want to pay 500 for complete set up. but they are able to spend crazy money in kfc. my business is down the hill and inventory is just collecting dust. second reason is every female that i know want to be an event decorator, i have experienced so many times that family and freinds of client want to be in the hall when decorating and they are watching for free sometimes i tell most of my clients that i dont want anyone in the hall except myself and my crews but will they listen, they try to out smart by saying oh we want to help you, i said no my crews are there for that but they wont leave just watching for free, after event is over guess what they are also posting that they are designers so that is the reson why no bookings every female i know want to be a decorator even if is not their calling or not naturally gifted.

I had a shed built from Home Depot approx $2000 I put a lot of stuff in there and I rent a small storage unit primarily for the tables and chairs I rent. Cut the overhead. I know some people don't want to have all this stuff around the house but be creative and utilize your space that you own to save!

let me say this also sometimes God is speaking to us to lead us in another direction, but we don't hear him because we feel like we don't want to move into another direction or another phase of life it could be like you said God wants you to do something different. I stopped the events for a while and went into t-shirts etc. but decorating is my passion, my love, and yes, I still do it and is looking forward to coming back at it strong but I feel God is sending me in another direction also so we have to be open to him and allow him to lead us and not our own understanding. You do some amazing work just continue to trust God and listen he will tell you where he wants you to go.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I don’t know where you are located BUT… I do make crafts as well. I’m not a balloon designer or event planner. The balloon journey for me is based solely for a private baby shower for my son and daughter in law. From a crafting standpoint most of us are hearing crickets!! I have 2 boutiques where I have my items. I have constantly been changing them up and adding new items. Right now I have beautiful wreaths for sale that are being sold on Etsy for $225-$325 each. I’m asking $75 each and they probably won’t sell. Why? Because decor is also a luxury item in my middle market world! People aren’t buying anything they don’t absolutely need! I don’t need the income to live on as this is not my full time job. I just watched another video from a balloon artist that had been doing well and then went and got a job. I think this is a sign of the times for now! But god is good and will see you through this struggle. If I were you I would consider selling grab and go or smaller balloon items. Maybe someone who wants a topiary and a few centerpieces. They will remember you when their budget gets better! I honestly feel more people are doing balloons and back drops themselves instead of hiring out. Why, because there are so many KZbin’s, IG,TikTok out there showing people how to do it. They don’t need the decorators anymore. Sad but so true., I see it all the time on IG people posting there decor they did themselves from balloons to backdrops.
