I once had a corporate job that was sucking the life out of me in exchange for a very nice salary. Well, one can't enjoy the financial gain if one is dead. One day out of the blue a co-worker told me this... and it changed the direction on my life.... from city to country.

It takes a lot of time to get to the point where you don't feel guilty when you read a good book all afternoon long. I get it. You go girl. I bailed at 55 and couldn't be happier. We sold the house, quit our jobs, bought a motorhome and traveled North America for 7 years. Then we restored an old home in a pleasant community in North East Oregon. Just living the dream. Age creeps up on one, faster than you might think. I'll be 80 in a couple of years and I can truly say I have no regrets.

I knew there was something I liked about you. Another DP/IT/MIS burnout here. I did 25 years of that for two major corporations and you are correct, corporations just take and take. One day I was running a large information systems center and realized life was passing me by while I helped the machine get rich. Sold my house, moved to the country, and have never looked back. Good for you realizing it when you did and finding the good life. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

What an inspiring journey! You are the picture of contentment, so rare in this modern age. I also love healthy living and at 66 I have 10 acres in the country where I grow my own vegetables surrounded by fur and feather babies, a dream that I finally achieved after experiencing burn out in the public sector. On reflection, I think if I had come to this lifestyle earlier, I would not have appreciated it, nor would I have had the patience or fortitude to cope. Makes me appreciate what our pioneering ancestors went through. Blessings and keep those videos coming.

That's a great story. Glad you found the country life. Thankfully I found it in my mid 20s. I bought a tiny house with an acre of land and somebody said, "Why don't you put in a garden". I've never looked back.

A woman I almost married in the 70s worked one job for 30 years - 911 dispatcher - while I traveled everywhere. Ever in touch, she asked if I wanted to retire with her. We're on 60 acres in East Tennessee. I run a 1/2 acre market garden and sell at flea markets & farmer's markets. I have feeling most of your 60k+ subs are expats from the modern world. I Like the content and the comments.

I totally love this. I went through the whole corporate thing and your are right...they take and take and don't care about you. They only care about maximizing you for their own profit. There is more to life than that. You have to look at what is important to you. Family, life, personal goals, happiness. You have to ask yourself what success means to you. Making money and climbing the corporate ladder or finding a connection to people and the earth. Happiness is a matter of the heart and soul...not the pocketbook. I envy you. You made the right decisions and created a better life for yourself. Good for you. You are a smart woman. God bless you.

Good for you! At 48 years old our family packed up everything, left a thriving business and said farewell to friends and family (including two adult sons) and moved from our city home in California to a small town where we knew nobody in Texas. We sought a more traditional mindset and lifestyle for our remaining two sons and ourselves out in the country. In the five years I’ve learned to raise chickens, turn hard clay into fertile soil and encountered everything from snakes, bobcats to armadillos on our piece of paradise. Stuff this former city girl only saw on wildlife shows. I feel so blessed to have them here on this land with me and we coexist wonderfully. The two sons have since moved here and my mother will join the Texas gang next week, all more than I could have wish let alone prayed for. The slow down, back to basics lifestyle has been such a beautiful adventure and all our lives are the better for it. Your videos have added another traditional element to our new world and we are enjoying all the new ways to preserve and eat our garden bounty. Congratulations on your big step of faith, it has helped enrich not only your life but it has blessed others lives as well as we learn from you. Thank you for sharing your story, you never know who will encourage to follow in your footsteps!

My wife is right in the middle of the same typo of issues you ran into with corporate America. She hasn't gotten a promotion but was offered meager raises and she works 60 hours a week to keep up and after 4 years they're just considering hiring another person which she'll have to train..She is considered an expert in her field, so says upper management. She's getting burned out but we want out of the city. We looked in Missouri but the humidity would stifle me, I know so we're still exploring. Good video and your kitchen is lovely..

Thank you for sharing your story. My husband and I lived the same corporate lifestyles. He - 38 years, me - 25. He left his job 2 years ago and I left mine in January. It was a big transition, and you're right, you have to figure out the finances. But, some how, it all works out. We got rid of our pool and replaced it with gardens and are growing as much of our own food as we can. We're so happy and relaxed. Congratulations and blessings to you. Keep up the awesome videos. I just did my first ferment yesterday and looking forward to seeing how it comes out.

Your corporate career must have provided you the opportunity to save enough money to enable you to buy this acreage out in the country. So the corporate career , while taxing on you, did have some benefits in the long run. I know what you are saying about the corporate machine. It is a slippery slope. I was once told by a native of Ukraine to gather Calendula and make a tea from it . (I have a Lupus like condition since 1991 . ) She told me that in the Ukraine it is the best remedy for all health issues . Mainly because it is wonderful for the gut . They like you believe in fixing ones gut to become healthy . Do you know about gathering wild calendula ? She says it grows wild there. I buy it in dried form right now . Thank You for all your awesome information and videos on Fermenting . Heading out to find cabbage and other local fresh veggies today . 🥰😘🙋🏻‍♀️

OMG that resonates so much... I've been giving all of me to my corporate job for the last 15 years. And I know, 15 years might not sound that much, some people spend all of their lives giving to the corporate machine. But I reached the point that I can't do it any more. Not only I feel like I've been missing on life, because frankly I've been constantly too busy to have a life outside of my job. But I'm also feeling that with age you finally start realizing that health should be your #1 priority. I can no longer pull an all-nighter as I did in my 20s or sacrifice my mental well-being to achieve the targets or meet the deadlines. It's like you said: the more you give - the more that corporate machine takes. And they expect you to keep giving, and when you have nothing left in you to give - you are being replaced with someone else. It's nothing personal, it's just how the system works.

Thank you for sharing. I love hearing these personal stories. This world makes us believe that material things will make us happier. They never do. At the end of our lives, our money, cars, and high level job won’t bring us comfort or joy. I had an office job for years and I felt like a mouse in a maze, living 90% of my time in a cubicle. I left years ago to stay home with my kids and they are now young adults. I live a simple but a good life, and wouldn’t change it for the world. Life isn’t easy sometimes no matter what, but the Lord is so good always, and I’m thankful every day. God bless you!

Very inspiring life story. Your happiness shows up on your beautiful face and your calm voice. Unfortunately, our culture has taught us to get educated, get a corporate job and work our tails off to climb the corporate ladder and aim for a bigger house, a bigger and more luxurious car and more physical belongings. It never reminds you that you won't be taking any of those in your grave one day! Unless there is family wealth to pursue other means, most people put up with the corporate greed to achive their financial goals and to provide for their families. I used to work like you until my cardiolist told me, in my mid forties, that if I did not change my work habits, I would die of haert attach and that my bosses/Company owner(s) wouldn't even praise me for my sacrifices at my funeral. I rid myself of that corporate job and have lived happily for a quarter of century now. Your healthy eating teachings are extremely educational and you can be proud of yourself for sharing your knowledge with so many people.

I must say, you look great for an almost 50-year-old! I wish I could have had that nice corporate job for a while so now I would have more to work with, but I learned how to do whatever it took to help my family survive in the country. It's frustrating sometimes when I see my old friends and relatives in the city making almost double what I make in the country, but I get to be here, where there is fresh air, peace and quiet, very little traffic, and much more elbow room, and the little money I make can go much farther. It's really not a bad trade-off. Thank you for your videos. I'm getting a good education & especially appreciate learning about fermenting. I recently had antibiotics prescribed due to an infected tooth, which really caused some problems with my digestive system (diarrhea, gas and bloating). The probiotics have really helped!

Another exceptional video! Thank you so much. I made a similar decision years ago. As a youth I always spend my summers on farms and dreamed of living in a country setting. But ended up wanting to live near the ocean. In my early 20s, I followed my dream and moved out of the large city that I grew up in and moved to a small city in South Florida near the beach. Family always came first but scuba diving, fishing, boating became a big part of my life. I am still enjoying the 'water' lifestyle to a degree. I was thrilled with my decision then and have never regretted it. I love going to the beach and watch the sunrises! YET, I have always enjoyed gardening and still grow my own veggies too. And never gave up this passion But now use hydroponics indoors! Still a country boy at heart LOL! Discovered fermented foods about 10 years ago. Learned so much more from you after only recently discovering your channel. Again thank you! Really, really enjoy your videos!

if in Florida, why would you need to grow indoors? Because of Hurricanes?
@elliotflorida3469

@@willow-wf3jf Good question. The main reason is that I live in a condo. There are other reasons as well. Not much land available in South Florida either. Most single-family homes have relatively small yards. As far as hurricanes go, in my area (South Florida), they are actually quite rare and are not really a consideration.

@@elliotflorida3469 thanks for answering. You have enough space to grow indoors in condo? I think there is a mold/mildew problem in Florida. Do you experience any drawbacks with the humidity? Do you use grow lamps? Interesting...at least to grow some herbs.
@elliotflorida3469
@elliotflorida3469 6 ай бұрын
@@willow-wf3jf | No Mold problems in general, everything here is air-conditioned. I keep the humidity lower than most homes in my condo anyway as I use a dehumidifier. The hydroponic gardens I use are self-contained, including lights and an automatic watering system. Ther is even an alert is given approximately every two weeks to add liquid nutrients. The brand i use is Aerogarden, which I first started using about 20 years ago. At that time, they were the only ones out with this type of product. Now, there are many other brands to choose from. But, I've now watched many fermenting KZbin videos, ordered a plethora of items on Amazon to get started (yes, even you PH reader), and will begin my first cabbage ferment, then red beets, and your CABBAGE ASIAN SALAD with Peanut-Ginger Dressing, looks sooooo delicious. Looking forward to more videos from you. Thanks. Steve in Florida

Thank you for sharing your story. Totally inspirational on so many levels. I wanted to "live off the land" 40 years ago, thank you Mother Earth News, and Masanobu Fukuoka (Japanese natural farmer from the 1970s), I did buy the land in Southern Oregon back in the 1980s and still have it. I have used it as a vacation retreat but now is the time to get a little more serious about spending more time there. No regrets about living in the city for many years, how could I ?, I had the opportunity to live in So Cal 1 mile from the ocean. You could say I have had the best of the city and the country for 40 years. We all know life is precious and can be precarious so as long as you feel you are doing your best to achieve your goals, whatever they may be, be happy and with fermented veggies I believe I am doing my best to stay healthy.

Thanks for sharing your very touching life story, Adrienna. Many have that dream of moving to the countryside as we have and there are so many benefits to ones mental and physical health though these don’t come without a lot of effort and learning the hard way, how nature works. Keep up the good work, your enthusiasm is infectious.

What a lovely video and testament! I am so happy for you. Your life is what I am currently working towards. Getting a piece of land and just being content with everything our amazing God has blessed us with. I love all your videos, and your authentic and honest delivery. Thank you, and wishing you all the blessings in life.

Greetings from Thornton Colorado! I subbed this channel to learn how to make apple cider vinegar four weeks ago. It’s almost ready to PH test. But that’s not why I am writing. Just as bad as the corporate world is the hospitality world. I was a highly respected chef here and competed heavily nationally and in Europe. It sucked me dry for twenty years. It was a major player in my divorce and certainly took time away from my family. I am moving towards a rural lifestyle this summer in California in a town of seven thousand people. I have owned a landscape company as well as train pilots at what will soon be the largest airline on earth so not a stranger to hard work. Not to rant but your story really struck a chord with me and is a very inspiring message. I hope that people will see this video in their earlier years. Thank you for your awesome channel. Rock on !

Superb! Thank you for sharing about yourself. I read all the posted comments as well. You have inspired a lot of people. You helped me to refine my lacto fermentation procedure. I have a 2 gallon crockpot that will meet my initial needs and then the product can be transferred to glass jars for refrigerator storage. I will be buying some cabbage, carrots, beets, caraway seeds, and fennel seeds or bulbs from the local Sprouts produce store. May God richly bless you in all you ways!!😊😊❤🎉

Oh darling girl, I knew there was a reason that I liked you so much, your honesty. Isn't growth a wonderful thing. I love the way we are able to reinvent ourselves. I know one thing for sure, you can grow the most beautiful flowers. I have said it before, you are a treat, for the eyes, taste buds and gut. I am so happy for you. I actually live off grid in Australia. Hugs to you and your family. Sherie Rodrigues

Omg! That’s so inspiring! I’m an accountant and I think life is more important than a corporate job. So I’m just working in this tiny firm 5mins from home. I could be making lots of money somewhere else but time is more valuable than money because money comes and go but time only goes ❤
