About:
The High Performance Podcast offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of high-achieving, successful individuals. It doesn’t matter where our guest has excelled - in sport, music, business or entertainment - they all have first-hand experiences and lessons to share. Find out what non-negotiable behaviours they employed to get them to the top, and keep them there.
Hosting every conversation is sports broadcaster Jake Humphrey and leading organisational psychologist Professor Damian Hughes. Jake is currently BT Sport’s Premier League anchor and former face of BBC’s Formula One coverage. Damian continues to work with leading sports organisations and teams to create a high performing culture.

I was a wake and bake stoner for the last 15 years of my life… for the last year or so I’ve turned my back on it and started getting into sea swimming and triathlon… reading John’s book was one of the pieces of the puzzle that helped me change my ways. I’m now looking to do an Ironman event. I’m sure I’m just one example of change that John’s story has impacted… in that sense he’s achieved his goal and had a profound effect on someone who he doesn’t even know. What a story. What an inspiration.

Great story and great interview. I think the biggest thing to take from this is how you replace tragedy or hitting rock bottom to have the lightbulb moment. Its great to have inspiration but alot of us have to wait for that rock bottom moment for us to act on it. Its how we replace that rock bottom moment. Great job guys looking forward to working my way through the catalogue.

Top top episode. My usual favourites are the sporting household names. But Johns story is so motivating. "having an ability, having a talent, don't waste it" Such a brilliant line, which if more people really embraced that idea, the world would be an amazing place!

You think a lot of the top armed robbers don’t become millionaires when a decent cash in transit van (for the upper echelon of the trade) is upwards of 100,000 what planet are you on 😆

Also . . A lot of the top criminals (the street versions not parliament) are restricted to one ‘ line of work ‘ they’ve got their fingers in all sorts of pies and they know how to make money . . One common thing for them to do is invest the proceeds from armed robbery into the drug trade . . MANY criminals have become criminals like that. You’re talking about the top criminals in the country dip stick (not anything I condone)

Because it’s easy to make mistakes in life (particularly if you’ve been raised in an environment conducive to that) but not so easy to do a complete 180 turn your life around and inspire a lot of people. Hopefully you’d have the same courage in that situation and be spared judgment by people
