What if our current understanding of Diversity and Inclusion is fundamentally flawed? In this revolutionary talk, Fred Falker introduces the Distance Paradigm - a new way of thinking about Diversity and Inclusion, differences, and a powerful and practical new approach to connecting with others. Fred challenges us to see that there is nothing dividing us, one from another. All that lies between us is space and opportunity.
Falker Consulting Group, Inc. is a human resource development training and consulting firm. Frederick is also the Director of Workforce Development for the Saint Louis Zoo. He has worked as an organizational development consultant for more than 30 years, helping organizations with performance management, customer service and diversity issues. At the Saint Louis Zoo he has worked extensively on helping the organization’s efforts to establish itself as one of the best places to work, serve and volunteer in the country. He is currently working on a book detailing a fundamentally new approach to thinking about diversity entitled, Seeing the Box: Improving Interpersonal Effectiveness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Excellent thought provoking talk. Was looking for a video to share with my organisation, and I think I have found it.

You may want to think again. You will end up hurting your organization with this shallow, nieve, misleading, and destructive rhetoric. This is not a path to a utopian society because the policies needed to be implemented for D.I.E. could never account for the trillions of intersectional differences each individual possesses. The best policies stem from MLK's vision to treat others according to the content of their character. Otherwise, there are plenty of sociopathic characters who will happily take advantage of your flawed system for their own tyrannical objectives.

It's a bit off topic, I apologize. One of our engineers explained me how to connect all dots with only ONE line. He said: Just take a very big pencil. There you are :-)

Yoi should be ashamed . you must hate others. Its nutts! So mas my have thin skin. want to draw the victim line. Political correctness lines dont ecen allow truth and positive talk. cant adress any subject without offending someone stepping on there (lines) Great speakers well done!

I feel so bad that race is important in the USA. In East Africa, my little 3-year-old mixed color son is the same as everybody else. I'm the same as everybody else. Some people, who don't know me, see me different but to me, and my friends, I'm like everyone else.

Race is very central in Europe and other spaces where power structures are defined by whiteness as universal. Look at South Afrika!
