the idea of hoping between worlds only to find a world with nothing left but a withering crater filled world with nothing left only to then spot something in the distance that blocks out the sun and is rapidly coming towards you is terrifying, doubly so if you can connect the dots and realize that this thing on the horizon is what destroyed this world

"The land around you seems grey and lifeless, the air filled with the aroma of dusting bones. the dirt below your feet feels cursed, as if a million bodies were buried unceremoniously beneath it. beyond the horizon is the setting sun, dark oil colored appendages seemingly extend from it as if the sun were an eldritch monster roaming this damned world, that is when you notice that the appendages are in every direction, all converging on the setting sun. Just as it reaches the horizon line, all light disappears before coming back with a sickly purple hue. where the sun once was, is an unidentifiable object made of the same thing as the appendages, it grows faster than the sun shrunk and as it does a low hum approaches, like white noise created from desperate pleas of uncountable souls aiming to warn the unknowing. it approaches."

I completely forgot about the Wither Storm and now I realize just how much of a fit it would be for specifically my campaign! My campaign is dealing with a dimention I created, The Void, highly inspired by the Void from Divinity Original Sin 2 and League of Legends. A void flavored Wither Storm would fit amazingly well! Thanks for making this!

I've actually been writing a D&D campaign for a while now, but I've been having trouble with keeping potential adventurers interested in the story I've created after the BBEG, the Orc Queen Rebel, is defeated. . . that was, until I found this video. I can use the threat of that thing being created by a cult of Necromancers and Liches as a sorta Season 2 of my D&D story and actually taking the thing down as a sorta Season 3; and to sell just how bad The Wither Storm is, I'll re-work it into a Lovecraftian Eldritch horror, even more than it already is, by having it convert both pre-existing undead beings and *ANY* character. . player, NPC, animal, ect. . with a high degree of damage resistance into it's unwilling slaves through The Wither Effect to further spread it's destruction & gather more living things and materials to further grow its power so eventually the ENTIRE D&D multiverse is withered away. Um, if any of ya'll wanna ask some questions, feel free ta ask; just keep in mind that I have a nasty habit of rambling so I hope you don't mind a long winded answer.

The barren wasteland plane is an interesting idea but I think that if the Wither Storm ever got that out of hand, it would consume the planet, therefore becoming the planet.

Idea: So you have one campaign that is focused on building the "F" bom And then you have a second campaign that takes place about say one hundred years later with someone who doesn't believe in age to ma jack and they get a bit too close to the river storms body. Of which that's wrong but believed to be Decaine, And then as they approach it reawakens. And then you pull out the characters from the old campaign that could live that long , such as elves ect. From there they have to the second part.

I've been obsessed with the Wither Storm specifically forrrr two years now????? _And_ I love D&D too, sooooooooo Edit around 4:59 in: I actually speculated how wither sickness would work as a magical disease in D&D! It's... really complicated though, involving exhaustion and how powerful the storm gets over time and gradually increasing DCs but if I find the motivation I might post it here somewhere- Edit: yeah I ended up- doing that- Edit 2 at around 6:14: Eh... I dont really think its flesh is obsidian, but rather something of its own creation I like to call "witherstuff". It clearly doesnt have the texture of obsidian, first of all, and while the Command Block's platform _does,_ it's... only in that spot. Everything else is... what I can only describe as natural matter being withered/corrupted as its consumed by the storm into something unrecognizable and terrifying. And too durable to suffer harm. 7:11 edit: Eh.... I dont think it would be chaotic evil, but rather unaligned. It's a terrible apocalyptic disaster, sure, but its hostility is... bestial. Primal, I woukd even say. The only reason it follows the Amulet is that the Command Block was specifically programmed to track it, which, to me, not only makes that Wither Storm unique, but it also means to me that it's not really.... consciously chasing down anyone? And like you said, it's more of a force of nature than an entity at this point, and I like to compare it to a black hole. (I'd go more in depth with this but.... eh, that'd draw this out more than I intend to) In other words, the Wither Storm doesnt feel morally driven on its own to me. The idea I have for this thing, is sort of a DEFCON 1, last resort for the protagonists. Against something similar to the flood from halo, or the tyranids of warhammer. Kind of like mind flayers, in a way? Essentially, cordyceps. Where it just keeps spreading, and the party find it nigh-impossible to stop, to the point that they may even summon a wither storm to clean up the infection. Karat Fang has done at least two videos as of now, where he pit the storm up against various infections, like the Sculk Horde.

i think an interesting game mechanic would be each in game turn even if not fighting the party the wither storm increase the maximum hp that mean your party could speedrun the game by finding fast the wither before the hp get to big
