Edith was a vile character…she tried to destroy Mary and thus almost herself. She destroyed two families constantly upending Marigold for her selfish self likely to never tell her. She couldn’t even be happy for Mary when she could be happy for Edith. She whined. She whinged. She complained about how hard her lot was and her being happy was a slap in the face.

Edith had incroyable character development and such a fascinating storyline to follow. The first time I watched Downton Abbey, I didn't care for her but watching a second time, I realized how strongly she grew from having shallow, envious, and hurt personality traits to rising above and evolving traits based around progressive thought, self-assurance, and work ethic. 🙏🏻
@NatzTalk3 жыл бұрын
....... Hurt personality traits.. She was basically put on the backburner because she's a middle child always forgotten and less thought of. And it doesn't help to have a cold and callous bitch of an older sister. How the fuck would you feel if you were treated like that or thought less of? I'm just glad she wasike fuck everyone and I'mma do what makes ME happy and she showed them in the end. Thanks for underestimating me..

Lady Edith is the most well defined character study of all. From having always been in third place and negligible she forged a career for herself, from having been the least attractive of the sisters she found love, not only once but twice, from simply being an ornament like Lady Mary, she has unfurled her petals, forged a path in a new profession for women and made something so very worthwhile of a life that evolved to women winning the right to vote, the right to own property and the right to fly to the moon if they want to. And on top of it all, she married the man she loved, and won a title that placed her higher in nobility than her own family.

@@2eleven48 I had to read it like 3 times to figure out he meant illegitimate. I didn't correct the rest of his English cause it was still very understandable. I don't feel ashamed and I don't understand why you instinctively assume I had negative intentions cause I corrected a single word. It sounds like you should work on not being offended by strangers on the internet, especially when they didn't say anything offensive and especially since they didn't even talk to you.

@@Roberta_Trevino ...Did I not mention tact? There are ways to point out an error, rather than just plonking the correct spelling down. Actually, I also had some confusion with the word on reading it, but in my case I felt touched by the gentleman's mangled attempt. As to your second paragraph, the comment section acts as a forum, where anyone can participate, as you should know. And, excuse me for making this point, don't you rather think that 'like' in your first sentence was redundant?

@@2eleven48 So you'd agree with me that a person who was less intelligent than you would find my clarification helpful and that it's thanks to my comment that they can properly appreciate the man's remark on Bertie free of the silly confusion created by a misspelled word.

@Jacksjarofdirt1233 жыл бұрын
Everyone who wishes for this character’s happiness clearly like to forget the unhappiness she caused to two families so she could upend Marigold and likely never tell her of her real parents. Edith whined and complained constantly and couldn’t be nice to anyone. She called Sybil fat for no reason and couldn’t even wish Mary well on her wedding day yet Mary did wish her well. She brought on her own unhappiness and I wish she stayed that way.

There are a few things. Her love for her children and Mathew, her friendship and loyalty towards Anna and Bates. Her love and respect towards Carson. Every person in the show is flawed which is why I love the show so much. They all make mistakes. You may not like Mary but that's okay. Each person relates to the characters they like most.
