G'day, Steve, that was really entertaining. Thankyou . I remember going up to the Eden area in my teens staying at the OLD Shadrachs Creek caravan park in the late 1960s with a mate whose grandparents owned the property. I vaguely remember seeing blokes on a wharf ( either Eden or Tathra) at night fishing for sharks using big drum reels pegged down like life savers used to use for rescues. Lots of good memories of a bygone era. Cheers, Pete

Missed part 1 yesterday (I was out fishingh all day!) so caught up today (Wednesday). Great story, would love to hear more of your journey so please keep it up! And you replied to every comment....impressive! About 30+ years ago I would religiously buy a weekly instalment of fishing articles that featured you, Rex (kissed his fish) and others.Bought the entire 30 or 40 set. Had to give the sport up due to family and work commitments, but now that I'm retired, I'm back with a vengance! You are one of the main reasons I love this sport. Simpler times, and like you I have been hooked on fishing ever since. I'm now turning 61and still now and then like to just grab a tub of worms or bits of bread and a hand line and sit on the bank of a river or lake to wet a line and reminisce.

To think that your Fishing addiction started not 70km from where I now sit is mind boggling. My first fish (a baby Squire) fell to a Cork Hand Caster and Prawn off a jetty in Swansea NSW. My first lure was a Silver Wonder Wobbler. My Grandads Bream Rod was not the ideal delivery tool but I got a lot of Tailor using that before the inevitable snip off (who knew you had to check your leader?). Closed face reels, are the reel designed by someone who hates Anglers 🤣. I swear I'd rather use the Cork Hand Line😛 Well that chat gave me some nostalgic pangs and smiles. Totally entertaining.

Yep, I’d listen to your Tuesday chats Steve. You have had & are still having a stellar fishing career, with fans from one end of this brown land to the other. Our kids remember your past visits very fondly & they are now grown & with kids of their own, who are all keen fishos, so life definitely moves along at a seemingly ever increasing pace as we get to the sunset years ourselves. And haven’t all the goal posts shifted - with paper fishing magazines & even books pretty much a thing of a bygone era And hasn’t new technology impacted every aspect of the fishing game as well & not always for the better IMHO. What do you see of the future for fishing journalism / content creation? The introduction of AI & Quantum computing could obliterate what we understand to be fishing journalism & content creation, I’m suspecting. Pretty much anyone can ask Siri to get AI & Quantum Computing to create a fishing story or KZbin vid that’s believable - from images or video out their floating around in the I Cloud & publish it as their own and derive KZbin revenues from it if they have a monetised channel. Every man & his dog pretty much has a 4WD & tinny, drone and KZbin channel & films their missus butt in a thong bikini & publishes it on KZbin and becomes a “influencer”, in say 6 months, with 100k followers & is seemingly travelling and living on product sponsorships and KZbin revenues. Digital everything means no film cameras & sending your roll of negatives off to Kodak to print & wait to get them back to send off an article to a publisher / editor of a fishing magazine & wait months to hear if it’s been accepted or not & even longer for it to be published. So to my question, since you (& I) have witnessed all these myriad of changes within our lifetimes, - where do you see the future of fishing journalism in say the next 50 years the way this world is changing & at such a great rate of change?
@StarloGetsReel3 күн бұрын
