I am a senior software engineer with twenty years of experience and a Master's degree. I was laid off in October 2023 and still can't find a job in my own country. It's infuriating to see all the white men being pushed out and replaced by one Indian after another. My entire department of 100 people was mostly Indian. They even started having Indian celebrations at work. This is so backwards. I paid into this system my entire life, and now Vivek thinks our 'culture' is too lazy. This is a slap in the face.

As a former technical recruiter I can promise you there are Americans that can do all of the "highly technical" jobs better than their counterparts from India. It all comes down to money, the Indians are willing to undercut the price and so large corporations only want to hire them as opposed to the Americans who have no language and culture barriers and are just as skilled or more skilled. I filled a number of SAP jobs at Southern California Edison and I presented them with numerous qualified Americans and they refused to hire them or even talk to them. They did not say it openly that is what they were doing, instead they just offered such low pay they knew only the H1B visa crowd would accept the wage. So that way they can claim there were no Americans to do the jobs and technically not be lying. The truth is there were no Americans that would do the job for pay that low. Trust me that is the dirty little secret and I know it is the truth.

My son had to train his replacement while the men stayed in Romania and he tried to master their broken English. He at least bothered to stay on the job long enough to, while most of the entire section at IBM who had lost the Government contract just gave up and went home. Why train your replacement? How can your "former" employer even enforce that? IBM after that refused to hire Americans directly only through Temp agencies so they did not have to help people they fired get new jobs as required by NC. The Temp agency already does. He landed on his feet. Got a better job in Georgia. And after that company went under got an even best job where he is now.

I was in construction for over 20 years. Got tired of fighting for jobs and getting out bid by illegal labor. Then went to school like they said and learned networking and systems engineer. Now am battling another foreign worker. They are not better, smarter, or harder working. They are cheaper and just like the foreign workers in construction, they will not complain when worked an average of 60 to 70 hrs a week for 40 hours pay.

I worked at a large auto safety company. We had a major failure in our product at one time. 1000's of bad parts that wouldn't work. The plant manager was able to send them out, putting people's lives in danger. He was able to do this because Indian engineers signed off on this. No ethics. We had a good tracking system for our product, so parts were recalled before any of the cars were sold. Those responsible should have gone to prison. They were all fired, but people could have died. That is not so much of a concern in India.

I was in a similar situation as you were during the 2008 crash. I got all three of my degrees at a top engineering school, and I remember getting some interviews. I know one thing, having met with my son's guidance counselor last year before my son entered high school, the schools here, all of them, are pushing for kids to go to college to learn one thing and more or less one thing only, computers. IT, coding, programming, etc. That's the BIG push that these kids are all being forced and funneled into. So what's going to happen to all these kids if they go through college and there's someone else in their way who got here first without all the schooling, etc.? Simple, they're going to end up in debt, begging for loan forgiveness while taking any job they can get and ending on government assistance. All part of the plan folks. My son, he's going into trade school because that's what he wants and that's where our jobs are going to be.

The education complex is so far behind it is bonkers. I am literally staring at a simulation of an AI programming team right now. It behaves like a tech dev time machine. These sims will grow in scope and speed rapidly from this point and they will ultimately wipe out millions of jobs from the tech industry. Many more industries will follow suit, but tech will get hit the hardest first. It's going to happen really fast when the AI R&D startups begin to fold in on themselves in late 2025 and I suspect only a tiny percentage of people have a clue. 2026 - 2028 will represent the tsunami. Obviously Musk doesn't understand the current state of AI or he wouldn't bother engaging in an argument that will be academic very soon.

The trades don't waste over a hundred thousand dollars in tuition teaching useless classes that will never be profitable. Trade schools teach useful skills. If you're son has an ability for a certain trade and he is good at it, he will most likely never be in debt and could potentially earn over 100k right out of school. Most of college is a scam.
