That is a very healthy Ekiben. I like it. I am slowly trying new Japanese desserts. They are great.

What a beautiful bento box. What I like about Japanese sweets is that they are not overly sweet. Japanese sweets are balanced in flavor. In the USA, sweets are often very sweet, sometimes too sweet, without a lot of balance. But that's not always the case. I like Japanese cream filling that is not terribly sweet. I hope we are going to see a street food video. Yeah!

It's been more then 10 years since I've been at Kyoto station. I still remember the ekiben I got. I still have the box; the outside was like a washi paper box so I could take the inner part out and keep the stunning pink box. This bento looks delicious! I always pick one with many different small dishes. I love Japanese sweets. With such parfaits I always save the shiratama dango for last as I love the mochi texture :)

This dessert looks like a jelly. Amtrak train from Los Angeles to San Diego is practically the same as you're there.

I stayed in a business hotel near the station and was torn between exploring the station more and exploring the city. I'd been a few times before so some of the cultural history I was well familiar with, so I did spend some time exploring the station. Lots of good food options

I am just so interested in these Ekiben. Always looks so interesting. Nothing like that here. I can make myself a little bento lunch, but it's just sandwich and fruit, veggies. Not fun little bites of so many things. I love Anko. Have some stuffed buns in my freezer now. Not lots of filling but happy my local Asian store carries them. Hello from a very rainy Corvallis Oregon USA.

The bento looked pretty, with fresh and appealing dishes. I love the variety provided...... I have not had Japanese sweets, so I cannot offer an opinion. I think I would be fine with less sweet..... and some of the jellied items. I'm not sure about anko bean paste.

I have always been curious: how do you dispose of trash when you are on a train? What do people do with the box, chopsticks, napkin, toothpicks, etc? Also, how do you carry a bento box onto a train? Do you carry it on in a sack? What do you do with the sack? 😮

Nope. Where I’m at in North America (Canada) a lot of items have been turned into eco friendly variants. No more single use plastics like bags, disposable utensils, plates etc. it’s a better change.
