That was amazing! I feel like licensed anime games get the short end of the stick when it comes to documenting their development, so it's really refreshing to learn more about these games after all these years. Without your video, I wouldn't have known Budokai went through so much development hell lol. Very well written and edited, looking forward to what you do next :)

Shockingly informative and well plotted out. I enjoyed this video and I never would’ve thought about the game’s impact without it. Well done.

I guess what I don’t understand is, why did the American version release first? Is there some quantifiable difference between the NA and JPN releases of the game?

Don’t have a direct answer but this is what I found from a reddit thread of those who claim to have translated the interview that I got a lot of my info from. TLDR, seems like the international distributers, Infogrames (soon to be atari), somehow knew how well the games would do overseas and might have pushed for a sooner date to "throw that market a bone". I couldn’t find an answer to differences between the releases but it seems the gc version that released almost a year after the ps2 version has updated cel-shading, so looks like someone was still working on it. The trend of US release before Japan release continued and looks like they did make changes to budokai 3's japanese release including new outfits, extra movies and a vocal opening theme. www.reddit.com/r/dbz/comments/1alx1xe/dragon_ball_z_budokai_1_2_and_3_japan_releases/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball_Z:_Budokai_3#Japanese_version

@@King_Sammy I mean there’s no “somehow”. Dragonball Z was insanely hot in 2001-2, the biggest show on Cartoon Network easily. It was doing massive numbers. Good business sense by Atari.
