I noticed at about the 14 minute mark in the video that while he is still not doing things the way you want, he looks more relaxed and his expression is softer. He did improve as time went on so a good day I would say.

So you mentioned moving into a circle. Describe how. Are you only using rein, using leg pressure only, seat weight shift?

Does your hand/reign position change much when you switch this exercise to a leverage bit? and do you ever use a leverage bit with a hinged type mouthpiece? Thank you for sharing your knowledge... I need to work this exercise!

Hand position changes depending on the body part I want to move. Where my hand is to ask for a body part to move does not change except for when I'm working towards going 1 handed.

Soooo, is it ok if the horse is ‘looking’ without turning his head in that direction ? If not, do you put him in a circle in the opposite direction?

I am finding when I push a little at the girth with my inside(right leg) while bringing my left / outside leg back for right lead departure I feel like he gets unstuck with that right shoulder and can pick up the right lead better, am I correct with that signal?

You are correct in that your right leg at the girth gets the shoulder over and in position for the right lead. As the horse progresses with moving the hip over the shoulder becomes secondary. You want to use your right leg the position the shoulder but not as part of your departure cue.

Thanks, yes, what I was thinking, we picked up the incorrect lead in that direction 2x this morning and I realized he was planting that right shouler and I was getting the hopping, so I asked him to get off that shoulder, and then we got it.
