Because calling white "militias" gangs would force the government to deal with them. On a more serious note, gangs usually imply a mix of self protection of a territory and/or selected group of people, many times funded by illicit activities, while militias are the cover term that many of these white (predominantly Evangelical Protestant) paramilitary organizations use to justify their formations, under the guise of the militias stated in the Constitution. The Constitution only mentions militias in the capacity of individual state-owned militias, which is modernly organized as the state National Guard and Air National Guard. These paramilitary organizations aren't well-regulated, nor are they sanctioned by any states; if anything, they are closer in scope and purpose to the German rifle clubs used pre-WW2 to hide build-up of arms and materiel for warfighting in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. These groups need to be closely monitored, and any declaring themselves in opposition to the government and a willingness to do so violently should be treated as what they actually are: terrorist organizations.

Militias go back to the Revolutionary War, it was what our country was founded on. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State.” Passed by Congress in September 1789 and ratified in 1791. The founding fathers idea behind that phrase was when humanities rights become regulated and restricted it was up to the people to stand up. When you see a very large majority of the country having thoughts that they’re being restricted, there’s probably a reason for it.

There are good militias, but a lot of them are far less than professional. The National guard STARTED as a militia, but was adopted by the federal military to be ran on a state level. They are a branch of the military. Just like the marine corps was started sending prisoners into war from naval ships as the front line, then the idea was adopted by the government and they are now a branch of the Navy. Good militias help their community in natural disasters, help fight fires, search and rescue, EMS, riot control, and anybody else they need to. A well regulated state militia works with and is called upon by their governor if additional assistance is needed, but is not obligated to do so. If a well regulated militia is told to stand down, they will. If the country goes into martial law, the militia will defend and only defend their communities. A well regulated militia does not start fights.

That's more than likely not an assault rifle. Assault rifles are capable of automatic fire. Most of your legally sold ARs and AKs and so on are not assault rifles. What the militia’s fail to understand is that if they were to initiate an armed rebellion they would not be fighting law enforcement. The National guard would step in first and then the military. They would be crushed in short order by superior weapons and tactics. Poorly trained civilians with assault rifles and pistols would disperse quickly in a confrontation with the government. I’m all for the second amendment and I am legally armed at all times, but militia’s are useless and a thing of the past.

The 2nd Amendment was established because the founding fathers feared the tyranny of government, which can trample the rights of men regardless of whether it's a monarchy or republic. Citizens should be able to organize militia to defend themselves and their property from the government or any other force which seeks to act tyrannically. That goes for blacks, whites, asians, hispanics...anyone and everyone has the right to organize militia. The founding fathers believed the first ten amendments were god given rights, not rights granted by any government.

Most of them don't have assault weapons. You're thinking of rifles capable of automatic fire. Most legal ARs, AKs and so on are only capable of semi-automatic fire. Meaning one trigger pull will fire one bullet only. The majority of legal gun owners don't get them because they have some wet dream of getting in a gun fight. It's okay to not be okay with certain or all firearms, but don't speak on something if you're not willing to actually learn what you're talking about. Well, I disagree with you. I myself own all these weapons. I have never in my life though of using them in a shootout as you say. I just love to shoot, and gun collecting is a hobby that I enjoy. I have multiple shotguns, and handguns also. I love the shooting sports, and am a very avid hunter. But not for sport, where I live. It's how we keep our family with meat on the table. We also grow all our own vegetables, and can them. Around here, guns are tools. Different tools for different jobs. I'm 47, been around guns my whole life. Started shooting when I was 6, hunting when I was 8. By age 12, I was hunting by myself in the mountains. My dad would go one way, I would go another. I've never shot anyone, and darn sure don't wanna either. There are extremists on both sides of this debate. And that's what the media on either side wants you to see. Whatever fits their agenda to make people think a certain way

It's important to measure intent when considering the Bill of Rights. Yes the Militia were to be well-regulated, but that didn't mean regulated by the civilian government. The founding fathers always distrusted government, inspired by the tyranny they saw in their lives prior to writing the Bill of Rights. Sorry CNN but your not correct here on this one. Because yes the Militia has a long history but it goes back to long before the KKK was a thing. To be exact the Militia started during the colonial period as a defense force under the British Empire. And where involved in every major battle of the Revolutionary War. Yeah shocker right your news agency isn't very well educated in the subject of history. They are actually the citizens militia that are mentioned in the Constitution under the 2nd Amendment. But I wouldn't expect you to be capable of understanding what a militia is considering how bad the education system is in this country. So I'll be kind enough to enlighten you. A militia by definition is a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency. Thus when the 2nd Amendment said quote " A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." They where not talking about the regular Army , Marine Corps or Navy at the time. They where talking about military age civilians have the right to keep and bear arms. That said they are also supposed to be well trained and drilled for battle incase of emergency. I haven't seen a modern militia that has filled this requirement. Furthermore the most recent law on the matter being 10 U.S. Code § 246 - Militia: composition and classes. Outlines the militia as such .. "(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. (b)The classes of the militia are- (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia." This means that the unorganized militia consists of all able-bodied citizens 17 to 45 years old who are not in the military or national guard. Aka Citizens are militia. And the Militia goes back to before the nation was a independent nation. The KKK are not a militia organization they are a group of racists idiots with guns. Who started out as a product of war veterans of the Confederacy trying to rebuild their states. And some trying to continue the war. Painting a group who's founder after the civil war said this in a speech he gave in Memphis..." There is no reason that the black man can not be doctors, store clerks, bankers, or any other job equal to whites. They were part of our community and should be involved and employed as such just like anyone else. " Former Confederate General and the founder of the KKK , Nathan Bedford Forrest. In another speech to Federal authorities, Forrest said that many of the ex-slaves were skilled artisans and needed to be employed and that those skills needed to be taught to the younger workers. If not, then the next generation of blacks would have no skills and could not succeed and would become dependent on the welfare of society. So for a modern racists organization their founder apparently wasn't so racists. So yeah militias go back to long before the KKK was a thought. Today's so called militia groups are not true militias . Their a bunch of barely organized not well trained people with guns.

Nothing that sheriff stated was wrong. Citizen's arrest is an actual law in every state and innocent until proven guilty is the law of the land as well. Without a trial he had no way of knowing the motivations or the details of the incident. If the governor committed a felony, it's a citizen's duty to arrest. It's actually a crime not to arrest or report to the sheriff. It's called Misprisonment when you don't act in the face of a felony or a felony that has taken place or will take place.
