I’ve been meaning to read this collection of short stories for years now. I’ve never read any of du Maurier short works. I also didn’t known there was a movie! After this review I will def be checking them both out.

The other short stories were not as good but this one was really atmospheric. I think you will also like the movie.

Wow, I did not even know this film was an adaptation at all. I watched it ages ago when I was working through some missed titles in genres I love (supernatural horror is a big yes for me for film, not so much for books though!). Donald Sutherland was amazing in it, I remember that. And I liked Julie Christie as well. I like that you pointed out that there was an Italian cast, I feel like that added a lot to it...but also just makes sense! Always love hearing your thoughts, this was a great choice to include for Shorty September!

Thank you! I very much enjoyed making this video too. I did not know this became a horror classic.

There are a lot of books (that I have read) to movie adaptations that I like, and many short story to movie adaptions that I like of short stories that I have not read ("Johnny Mnemonic" (love me some William Gibson), "The Lawnmower Man", "Total Recall", "2001A Space Odyssey" (the list goes on)) . So, I am going with "A Christmas Carol", by Charles Dickens to "Scrooged" with Bill Murray. Love that one! Silly and fun, but doesn't lose the message.

I did not know about some of these adaptations. Thank you for the recommendations. And I need to watch Scrooged again...

The film is really atmospheric isn't it? But as you say it ramps up the horror. I have seen the play too which was good. It got the tension of the short story.

I heard about the play very recently when I was doing the research for the video. It could be a very interesting play.

Maybe the short story could work for you but the film certainly would not be for you ;)
