Ahh! Perfect! I read my first Agatha Christie book last Halloween and I loved it. I reread Halloween Party again this year. I am so looking forward to reading more of her books. Very helpful video. The Murder At The Vicarage sounds good. So does Crooked House and Sparkling Cyanide. 😊

Wonderful video Berna! I have a few Maeve Binchy books that I own but have yet to read (I've seen the film of Circle of Friends and loved it but I have yet to start her books) but the fact that she is amongst your favorite authors makes me more excited to start her books. Based on what I have heard and read on Goodreads, I think I must be in the minority here but I really enjoyed Postern of Fate much more than I expected to based on what I had heard, there are 3 other Agatha Christie that I sadly just didn't like which were the Sittaford Mystery/Murder at Hazelmoor, the Big Four (which strangely Goodreads says I rated 4 stars) and They Do It With Mirrors, but I should re-read all of the ones I didn't like to see if my opinion has changed.
@BernasBookishAdventures

My second least favorite from Agatha Christie is the Big Four, I really disliked the plot structure of that one. The others were fine for me. As for Postern of Fate, the plot was not bad but it needed a major editing in my opinion. Meave Binchy ❤️❤️ I need to read her remaining books, it has been so many years since I read from her 😔 She is an author that I think you will also really like

Thanks a lot again for the video idea. I loved the research process of making the video. Some books even disregard the story in order to give the message. It should be done in a subtle way imo.

This is a great idea for a video. It has got me thinking. I just read Halloween Party by Christie and it was very disappointing. Again it was a late one from 1969.

When I first saw the question of Booktube being competitive, my immediate thought went to how much people can read being the comparative thing! But I can totally see this in terms of subscribers/views/comment, all because that is so visible. I used to compare a lot more, especially with things like Readathon TBRS when I would watch everyones and again.. it was very clear by the numbers who was getting more views. But now, I don't really think about it (maybe because I'm less involved in community events!). These days, I am more interested in having good conversations and sharing information via the videos I do. And in terms of my Booktube friends, I am thrilled to cheer on their successes. Great video, as always Berna!

I don't feel any need to compete for views or subscribers - there isn't a finite number after all. Maybe for bigger monetised channels it's different?

I read A Study in Scarlet for the first time this Victober. The only Arthur Conan Doyle I’d read previously had been The Hound of the Baskervilles. I enjoyed most of A Study in Scarlet but the motive behind the crimes was probably the least enjoyable part of it for me. I am looking forward to reading more though.

Thanks for tagging me, I've already done this tag. You have some great answers. I recently read a new Turkish writer to me - Oktay Volkan Alkaya, he had a historical fiction set around 1402 (Apocalypse of the Realm: 1 The Wrath of the Elephant) with the Ottoman Sultan confronting Tamerlane at the Battle of Ankara, it was an interesting read with a wide and cosmopolitan array of characters, but it ended with the Seige of Smyrna and was clearly the first book in a series and so many plot threads were not neatly finished. .

What an interesting way to discuss the value of older books, I love your take on this and how you put this together. Sometimes I find it hard to read older books because it can show casual intolerance/isms or language that we just wouldn't use today. I find this hardest in modern classics or 'important' works, but it's good to remember that I'm seeing it from today's perspective, not the time in which it's written. It's good to have a reminder that there is value in seeing a window into the time, even if not all of what's shown is good! Always love your videos, Berna!
