In the final installment of Transoceânica, the bus goes from the Andes to the Peruvian coastal desert and then on to the capital Lima.
In Peru, roughly three times as many people, per capita, are killed on the roads as in Germany or France. Dangerous places in the Andes are often given names such as "Death Bend" or "Jinxed Bend”, marking the spot where people have died. On the high plateau of the Andes, we find vicuñas, a type of lama, which produce the most expensive wool in the world. However, a parasite has recently decimated vicuña stocks, attacking the animals’ skin, leaving them unable to cope with the cold and rain. The western slopes of the Andes are dusty and dry. These mark the start of the Peruvian coastal desert, where the Nazca culture developed over 2,000 years ago. All that remains now are the famous Nazca Lines, enormous geoglyphs etched into the hard floor of the desert. The road then turns north along the Pacific coast, where there are numerous fishing villages. One of them is Pisco, where the local fishing trade has been badly hit by the El Niño weather phenomenon. And then finally, after 144 hours and 6,300 kilometers on the bus, we arrive in Lima - just two days late.

This was such a nice documentary, I can rate it as one of the best I have ever watched. It felt like as if I was part of the journey too, David Mancilla the driver seems to be such a hard working and genuine person. I really wish he wins the lottery so he doesnt have to strain himself so much at 61 already. Kudos to the camera team , narrator, and others who were part of this wonderful documentary.

The in depth coverage of the passengers, bus drivers, and the people and places along the way made this documentary special - and very interesting. A great ending to see the bus driver see his family after 7 years, and heartwarming how he sacrifices his whole life driving on the road to support his extended family.

It's not the bus driver whom you are referring to. The bus driver is Daniel Mancilla, who drives for the Peruvian bus company on the Lima-Rio De Janeiro-Lima route. Its Jacinto, the retired policeman and night watchman/factory worker in, who was living in Sao Paulo for the past 7 years, meeting his family after a long time.

Beautiful documentary. Love the beauty of the mountains around Cuzco, I think the Vicuña is probably the most beautiful animal in the world. As for the people they all seem pretty cool, specially the conductor of the bus, Mr. Mansilla. Love the way he meets his family and the honest, sincere look in his face. I wish him the best. There are many tourist attractions included here like the Rodeo by Edna Antonowiski, the Andes, the Machu Picchu, the vicuñas and obviously the Nazca Lines and many more made the video precious. I agree. I guess we are now in the 21st century, even in the Amazon. However, there are tribes deep in the Amazon, near Manaus (North of Brazil), thousands of miles away deep into the jungle still quite disconnected from modern civilization. This is an ongoing debate and controversy whereas defenders of the Amazon basin and the rain forest say that these tribes' ways of life and culture are being destroyed by Western invasion from Brazil,

I watched all parts. Love the end of their journey. Everyone has enjoyed their life with their family. Everything along the road is fantastic. The landscape, dominant story of each area, and the story on this bus along the trip are very interesting. Thank for the good documentary. Hope to visit South America sometime in the future. Thank you, DW Documentary for a masterpiece of a documentary. Just finished all five episodes in one go. As somebody from Asia, South America is the continent which I have the least knowledge. These five episodes have been very informative and I feel like South America is much closer to me now. And the icing on the cake is the last 10 minutes of the final episode which made me teary eyed - what wonderful human and family bonding, what heartfelt sacrifices to earn the daily bread for family! Thank you again!
