I myself keep looking for an 80's or early 90's mtb or hybrid to build out as a gravel/commuter style bike. Nicely done.

Thanks! Definitely do it. I have a M400 Cannondale converted to drop bars and 1x9. I absolutely LOVE it. Speaking of Hybrid conversions, check my Diamond Back video. Cheers!

@VintageVeloCustomz I built up my '98 Barracuda XC URT frame into a softtail gravel using a steel Carver rigid fork and a 1 x 7 drivetrain. It's been my go to lately when I want to just go for a quick spin, but I still want to build up something else now.

Everybody should have a bike like this in their fleet! I have pretty much the same frame hanging around in my attic which i picked up from the street (as a complete bike) twenty-odd years ago. And fifty years ago pretty much every teenage boy (and girl) with a degree of mechanical aptitude would have been able to do what you've done here without any special training, and with limited resources. Sadly though, now I know STEM undergraduates who think I'm a genius for being able to strip a bicycle down and use its parts for other projects.

Agree 100%! I used to do this when I was 13 working in a bike shop and it was no big deal. Now when people see me fix an old bike like this they think I'm "talented". Sometimes the compliments are overwhelming, so much that I often think "is this guy mocking me" :) :)

Glad I found your channel as I want to learn more about bike renovation. I'm curious as to the grease you are using and what you r solution is in the ultrasonic cleaner. Im currently looking for an older rigid mtb to clean up and ride on some local single track and as a winter bike. Thanks for sharing, and happy holidays!

Hi there, the grease is just a general purpose medium grease. I really don't believe in "special" lubricants, especially on a bike :). I use varsol in the ultrasonic as it cleans really good but also sort of revives older components as it it a bit of a lubricant as well. Things like brake cleaner are too harsh I find. Hope this helps. Happy holidays!!

❤nice rebuild, how much do you charge for a rebuild?
@VintageVeloCustomz26 күн бұрын
Thank you. It really depends on the condition of the old bike.
